ive got a dvd player that can play most dvds and formats including divx and xvid ,,, ive done a few dvds and they have played fine , and ive used mainly dvd-r discs, i usually just use divx player to burn these discs and i though thats fine cause ive never had problems and i never really looked into the technical side of things and never have looked to go more advanced but i do now cos anytime something goes wrong it drives me mad , any how the last two dvds i done won`t really work the first one playys the first min and the freezes and then i cant forward or rewind so ive to turn it off but when i plaed it again i could fast forward past where it freezes but then it freezes again after a few seconds so basically i can play any part of the film but it freezes after a few seconds but the second film just plays into the first min and then stops saying error occurred and goes back to title , i can play these films no prob on my pc , im also having problems with another film and it keeps popping up saying XVID.CORE.DLL MISSINGso i was thinking maybe the codec wasn`t right so i deleted some of them cos i think i had klite codec and a seperate xvid but not sure that was the problem ,, ...i had only used divx player and just burnt them without changing any advanced options and ive only downloaded dvdfab but not sure how to use it yet and i want to know what is wrong with just the last two films i done towards all the others that played straight away when i burnt them , could it be im not using the right burners and software and programs etc. cos they are all avi files so no need to convert ... i checked the properties of these two films and the bitrates seem to be much lower than the other films ,data rate=14 kbps
total bitrate = 142 kbps ,where else the other films are all around 1500kbps ...could i just get some sort of advice cos im just a beginner regarding dvd burning and ive never used programs under than the likes of div x player where you just add a file to the burn que and hit start , im not asking for a step to step guide just direction and i can pick up bits and pieces along the way , like if someone gave me the program to use i could learn a guide off the net step by step how to use it,just really want to know where im going wrong .....thankyou

Well, first the usual suspects, burning speed and media: http://www.digitalfaq.com/reviews/dvd-media.htm or any made in Japan are good. A good rule of thumb is to burn at 1/2 the rated speed of the media. Could be your DVD Player too, I had that exact problem with freezing on one player and not the pc and then tried to duplicate things on another player and couldn't. The same codecs can conflict and the k-lite (full) should be all you need. Another alternative is the VLC player, carries its own codecs and views most. ImgBurn is regarded as the best burner and is free: http://ask-leo.com/imgburn_free_cddvd_burning_tool.html available at: http://www.imgburn.com/

ive had a good read of your post and i feel ive learned a good bit already, the blank discs i use might not be of good quality but then again i don`t know but they are cheap ones with no writing whats so ever on them so maybe they aren`t the main west, the speed is another good point taken on board, ive got all the codecs and im making sure i don`t have it twice , i downloaded another program called gspot and it tells you whether you have the right codecs for certain files , i made 3 copys of one of the films and its the same freezes at 10 mins in but another one is spot on no problems so im not sure if the discs would only cause problems with certain files or is that a known fact ?,,ill start messing around with and experiment and im sure ill be back on here , ive found a new home on afterdawn the dvdr section lol:)really appreciate you replying cheers

Always use well known media; even though it's more expensive initially the cost falls drastically when you factor in all the bad burns with poor media not to mention the frustration. I only use Taiyo Yuden and have gone through whole spindles with no problems, others always at least 97-98%. They like a bit faster burn too, probably around 4x more than 1/2 speed shown. GSpot is an excellent program, don't know how they came up with that name though, LOL. I rarely burn avi so don't know if there if there are problems with some, audio maybe, my suspicion would be the player has a problem with some but no clue really. Yeah, great forum, there's usually an answer to any problem here.

If 3 different burns all pause at the same spot, it has to be your avi. I've seen audio problems where a sync issue doesn't show in the original on the pc but does on a burned DVD. My solution was always to create a new avi with AviMux_Gui to encode but I don't think the created avi will play on a DIVX player. Alltoavi is another possibility but I honestly don't know. If you want to try AviMux_Gui, add your avi in the top window, highlight it and select generate data. In the lower window, highlight audio and select start and save wherever you want but, again, thought I read some time ago this new avi won't play on a DIVX player. VirtualDub may create a new avi, not sure.
