Hi I have a big .ra file (1hr 16 mins) that I'd like to put on a CD/RW. I used Streambox Ripper to convert it to .WAV format at a sampling rate of 22,050 Hz, which gave me a file about 350 MB in size, which I'd naively thought would fit comfortably on a single CD/RW: the one I'm using has a stated capacity of 650 MB. But, when I come to burn that CD/RW with Nero, it starts with a dire warning that says something like "This compilation contains too much data to fit on the disc with respect to the normal disc capacity. Do you want to try overburn writing at your own risk? (This might cause read errors at the end of the disc or might even damage your recorder). Required capacity: 75:59:69 668 MB Total capacity on disc: 74:41:00 656 MB" Eventually I tried the overburn business, but got an error at the end. Does anyone know if this is normal? And is there any way around it? Thanks in advance for any suggestions, -- Dave
Yes, it is normal. 650mb cd has the capacity of 74 minutes of audio, in audio-cd mode. On the other 700mb discs (more common than 650mb today) can hold up to 80 minutes. So you'll have to buy a bigger cd, that's all.
Oh, I see, thanks. As a follow-up - the actual .WAV file is only about 350 MB, which would seem to fit comfortably. Why does it need 668MB for that? - Dave
Wav is in data format. Since audio-cd's is a standard, you can only use one kind of encoding on a standard audio-cd. That's why it's measured in minutes, not meegabytes. If you write it on on cd in data mode, it fits perfectly, but will not play on cd-player.
