    Hi,
evening all. I have been having some probs with some dvds I am backing up. I used dvd fab hd latest update and dvd shrink then image burn and backed up 2 discs of 24. I then had probs with disc 3 and 4. I used dvd decrypter instead of dvd fab and nero instead of image burn to try and burn the discs but the pc locked up on me with everyting I tried when I tried to burn the copies.
I am using a sata samsung dvd drive and the latest firmware. I cannot understand why the first 2 discs copied and now my pc locks up and freezes.
Anyone found this to be happening and a way around this??
    Thanks
    Mat

Did It lock-up in the Ripping, Shrinking or the burning Process?
Are you multi-tasking when you're Backing up the Disc?
Can you Post A log of the Failed Process?

    Hi,
It always locks up in the burning process. It sometimes does it after around 20% but can get as far as 90%. I am not multitasking and the screensavers do not kick in.
I am not sure how to post a log but will look on how to and post one on Wednesday.(tmrw)
    Thanks for the quick reply.

Is there a log before this one? If not you may have ImgBurn set to overwrite existing logs in which you should change that in the settings. Click on Events. Then make sure that Save the log and Append Existing both have a check mark in the box and Overwrite Existing does not.
You will have to try another burn and then post that log.
Make sure there are no programs running in the background.

    Hi
I checked all the boxes were set as you asked and the answer is yes the settings are correct. I am attaching logs for several burnings and some were successful. Hope this helps to see what is happening.
is it likely that these dvds are not able to be copied? They are 2001 quite old?

    Thanks Mat

Get some better media and set your recording speed to half of the disc's rated speed. Yes they are old discs.

My favorite is Taiyo Yuden but when I burn DL discs I use Verbatim DVD+R DL 2.4x (MKM-001-00 dye) made in Singapore.

You're in good hands with dialysis1.

Your firmware is up to date. (but still about 2 years Old).
Taiyo Yuden 8x -R is my Disc of Choice.
Imgburn is a far better burn engine than Nero, specially for Dual Layer DVDs

Also burn at 1/2 the rated speed of the Blank disc.
Set the Target Size to 4300mb.
Until you get the NEW TYs you might as well experiment with the remaining RITEKs (Which aren'too bad).
You May want to start thinking about getting a Newer Burner

Dang it...these guys have you all taken care of matluz. You're in good hands here.

A new burner may not be a bad idea for sometime in the future, especially when you can get a nice LiteOn for under $30.00 from Newegg or Tigerdirect.

I'll second both Dialysis1 and Berryone on blank media. I also use Taiyo Yuden's for single layer burns and Verbatims for DL burning.

What can I say but thanks very much. I will get a new burner maybe a liteon should it be sata? New discs are a yes and I should be ready to rock.
I had a problem getting image burn to slow down its burning speed. It seems to climb up to 4 x even when I set it to 2x. Is this common?
I got another disc to burn but again 2 more failures of a different brand.
\once again a big thanks what a team!
    Have a good day...

It is as usual raining here,,,,

    Hello again.
I have been doing some experimentation with an old pioneer 109 ide burner which I fitted alongside the Sata samsung which was not living up to expectation and wasting loads of disks. The 4 year old ide pioneer worked much better than the sata samsung but still burnt some coasters.
The new liteon lightscribe was the answer and has burnt 7 discs without error. It burns at 1.9 to 2x which the other burners did not. They used 4x or 8x on image burn auto.
I have some questions regarding lightscribe. Is it worth buying the discs? If so what brand would be advisable to buy???
Ok thanks for your advice it worked and I am a happy bunny.
    Tah

I Have a lightscribe burner, I don't think it is worth the cost of the disks. It Takes About 26 Min. to burn a label. Not In Color. Sometimes the Text Is Hard to read and it does not burn to the inner hub. And I Think that the images are starting to fade. Verbatums are what I used. And I only Used the CDs. You might want to get an Epson Inkjet color printer that prints the Labels directly on the DVDs.

Thanks for the reply I did not buy it for the lightscribe so nothing lost there. I have some verbatims in the cupboard and will break them open soon.

    Thanks
