Burning DivX Avi onto DVD disc As Data Creates Lip/Audio Sync Problem, Anyone Know How To Fix It?

I've downloaded a divx avi file and it plays perfectly on my PC, but when i burn it to DVD disc as Data using Nero, InfraRecorder Or CDBurnerXP it plays out of sync with the Sound

I have read somewhere that this might be due to a commercial being edited out of the file which creates the problem or that nero cant handle variable bit rates (which i know nothing about)

I dont want to waste time converting the file to DVD movie (.vob) because i always watch stuff in this way and it will take a lot longer if i had to convert every file i wanted to watch, to dvd first


Does anyone know how i can fix this or if there is another software which i can use which will work?

Try imgburn

 

Divx burner does a really good job, never had one go out of sync. I've also had media players falsely playback a divx file out of sync. Meaning it wasnt the video, it was the player that made it go out of sync. VLC media player is a good choice.

 

i tried imgburn too and still no luck,

i burned the divx file onto a dvd-rw disc and tried playing it in 2 different divx dvd players but it still plays out of sync,
yet on the PC it plays fine, why is this?


i searched for "divx burner" but i cant find it, do you have a link for that?

 

If it's the variable bitrate causing your problem, open the file in Avidemux. It should detect the VBR and ask if you want to build VBR time map. Do so then save file as copy (adding the file extension as program doesn't do automatically), only takes few mins. Burn the copy (I use ImgBurn) and try in standalone player.

 

ok, i tried this and played it in my divx dvd player and it didnt work, infact seemed slightly worser,

then i did it on the PC again and played it on the PC to see if the new saved file plays ok on the PC like the original did, it doesnt, it actualy is out of sync on the PC too which didnt happen with the original file,

also after i saved the file with the "build VBR time map" adustment, i reopened the new file which i just saved and Avidemux still asks if i want to "build VBR time map" which i thought it shouldnt since i just saved it with that adjustment. (i tried this 3 times and it kept asking if i wanted to "build VBR time map" after i just had done it)

 

VBR can be troublesome and the fix is usually to demux the vbr file
and create a CBR file from it, then mux this to the existing video

 

Sorry to waste another disc, worked for me on single occasion I had similar problem. I've d/loaded loads of files with VBR and all burn and play fine.

The divx player has a built in burner, drag the avi to the burner area (DVD looking thing) and drop it. Like i said though, while i've never had one go out of sync, If imgburn gave you the same prob then maybe divx burner would waste a disc also? I hate wasted cd-r's even if they really do just cost 0.10c LOL

 

I've had the same problems with TV recorded on my PC. I haven't found out why yet - but if I recode with Nero and then burn with either Nero or Imgburn - then they seem to come out fine.

I gather if bitrate of source file not standard (usually 112, 128, 160, 192, etc,) this can also cause synch probs when re-encoding, perhaps a more knowledgeable member than I can confirm/assist if so.

i'm using DVD+RW discs for these tests so luckily i'm not wasting any discs,

i have quite a lot of other divx files which play fine on both the PC and the DVD players (i have 2 dvd players), anyone know how i can check to see if the divx files have VBR?
(this way i'll know that its not the VBR which is the problem)

one of the dvd players that i have is a Philips DVP5960 which is supposed to be one of the best divx players around so i'm thinking it might not be the VBR

 

Drag into Avidemux as previous, if file has VBR it will tell you. Just say no to "build VBR timemap" and close. VirtualDub will also detect.

To find codec info (bitrates, etc) for my video files I use small app called MediaInfo. Sometimes codec info is supplied as text file with the d/load.
