I'm having a lot of trouble. Tried everything (I'm not a novice). Would be interested in anyone's experience with dual layer burning. I've read many of the threads at this site but the subject lines are very misleading.
My particular experience is with NeroVision 3,1,0,16 and a Memorex DVD+/-DLRWL1 F16 burner. Mostly what happens is I add 2 video files (captured with Power Director) and a message pops up saying it's too much for 4.7 GB disc do I want to use DVD-9, then the bottom scale expands and my videos don't come close to 7.96 GB. When I move on to the burn a message comes up says more or less "not safely recordable"--I've made a few coasters by ignoring this message. Nero Tech is, of course, useless.
I am a novice at forum threads, so if this is incorrect procedure, please excuse me.

Hi. I have a dual-layer burner but I've never tried burning DL due to the cost of media. I'm wondering if you ever tried just using Nero Burning Rom after formatting your video with some other software?
(Everyone is prolly groaning 'cuz I type this in too many replies)

But as a rule of thumb diagnostics is easier if you can break things down into discrete steps. By separating the conversion from the burn you might be able to zero in on the culprit.

So your captured videos together are bigger than 7.96 gig? If thats your problem then use tmpeg and lower the bitrate on the files just small enough to fit. I would not try to fit them on a 4.7 gig disk unless you don't mind big quality loss.

    Hello:
I have burned many, many single layer discs with this hardware and software. I think what I'm really asking is, has anyone out there ever been successful with Nero dual layer burn, and if so, what discs were used.
    Thanks for your interest.

I used a double klayer single sided DVD+Rm (8.5GB-2.4x, printable) manufactured by RiDisc. I used Nero Recode 2,1,1,25 for burning my DVD. It got a message at the end that it was successful. However, when I try to play back the DVD, nothing happends and it crashes the Nero or any other player. It also used all my cached memory and finally caused windows to crash. The second time, all the same, but it killed the machine! I just had to change the power supply and add another 512Mb of memory(to make it 1Gb). I don't think Nero software does the finalisation correctly on the 8.5GB discs. If anyone knows anything or managed to hack this, please reply.
    Cheers

I have the same problem. I tried to burn a bunch of anime episodes to a dual layer just so I could fit more on one disk. It burned successfully but it will not work in my dvd player, (which I know can play dual layer) or any of the players on my computer. I'm not sure what program to use anymore since nero didn't burn right, and i'm scared to try again cause i spent 30 bucks for three of these things lol
