    I am not sure I am posting this in the right group but I using Nero 6. I have a AMD3500+ on a Asus motherboard with a gig of memory and a Samsung SH-S182M burner. The problem I have is after Nero reads the DVD and "ask" for blank media I insert a Verbatim DL disk (also tried Memorex). The burner checks the disk and says it is incorrect media type and shows it as a CD-R. I am guessing that this is a hardware problem as the burner was only $30.00 but I wanted to get some other opnions before buying another. I have always used NEC in the past but when the last one died I found this one at Microcenter and bought it. The burner works good with CD's and single layer DVD's. I appreiate(sp) any help anyone can offer.

    Hi Brently
    Post your last Nero log. May help as sort this out.

    The logs are separated by something like this:
    ======***Nero Burning History***======

    Just be sure to edit out the serial # - usually begins w/ 1A, 1C or 5C.
    You can find them here:
    program files>ahead>nero>nerohistory.

    Which app in Nero are you using? What movie?

    Ok from I can see from the log looks like you are using the wrong option (?) in Nero Burning Rom. You see references to cd like this in the log CD type reading failed.

    Use Recode instead of Burning Rom - set recode to DVD-9 so no compression is needed. Or in Burning Rom have set to DVD-9 also and use the DVD copy option. But I don't think your version of Nero supported dual layer media or if it did not very well.

    So your Nero can definitely use an update - update to 6.6.0.18. Here are some links:
    Package 1
    http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/Nero-6.6.0.18_no_yt.exe

    Package 2 (recode & vision)
    http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/NVE-3.1.0.21_no_yt.exe

    Give that a go and let us know.

    I picked up Nero7 and uninstalled the old Nero. After I installed 7 the burn went without a hitch, although it took almost a hour. Problem Fixed! Thanks for the help.

    Glad to here you got it working!

    Yeah dual layer can take longer - using lower burn speeds & burning 2x the amount of data so will take longer.
