Hi...im having some problems with my dvd burning expeditions...i have recently been using nero vision express2...i have burnt one dvd consisting of music videos...mainly M-Pegs...the problem im having is with burning soem movies that i have saved on my hard drive....they are mainly .avi files and Mpegs...now when i burn them and put it into my standard dvd player i get no sound.....and instead of sayin dvd when its loading the disc it says VOB.......Im a real newb at this so any help would be muchly appreciated.....
NeroVision 4 or NeroVisionExpress 3, Nero 7 and 6 respectively, are where you need to be with AVI to DVD conversion. VSO's ConvertXtoDVD (aka DivXtoDVD) is another conversion tool, but the trial leaves a logo.
so i run it thro the convertor and than i can burn it with nero?...im a real newb at this so pls have some patience with me.....if i run it thru the converter do i have to run it thru anyhting else or do i go striaht to the burn stage??????..i thought that because it does all the transcoding that i wouldnt have to..... thanx for your help
ok i have downloaded cucusoft avi to dvd converter....it says it will take app 6 hrs to convert.....is this how long it should usually take....or should i use somthing else.....so once i have converted this , will i be able to burn it useing nero vision express 2
A DVD5 (4.7 on the label) has a capacity of 4.37GB. Over that and the files have to be transcoded (shrunk) to fit the DVD to be recorded to (the target). Some conversion software is faster than others. ConvertXtoDVD (aka DivXToDVD) and WinAVI Video Converter are usually faster than Nero. As I mentioned, the trials leave a logo on the screen. Some say the WinAVI is a hit or miss proposition. The ConvertXtoDVD enjoys a good rep. By the way, the ConvertXToDVD also burns the output. That's a new one and I'm still not sure of all it will do. You can read up on it at the VSO software website if interested.
hey thanx for all ur help on this....i should point out that the files that i am trying to burn are 700-800mbs.....and when this conversion fimshs it says that the estimated file size is 826mb.......will i still need to shrink it or do anything further to treat the file before burning????/
That's barely big enough to need a DVD. I've got a drive that burns 900MB to a 700MB disc that I could put it on CD with.
well after the conversion an the audio conversion the file size is now 1gig.....its burning now at the moment we will see if it works....but i have noted a decline in the quality of the video.....ok heres the deal its was originally ripped from dvd hence the 700mb file size....and now im coding it back to dvd .....i did read somewhere on this forum about how the picture quailitty is lost when its originally ripped and that taking it back to dvd disorts the file even more........would this be true??????? also whats the process to copy other dvd's...do i have get a decrypter and than run it thru a shrink and then burn......not sure what i have to do.....providing this works this will be my next adventure....
Not sure what they're talking about or your interpretation of the facts about quality loss. VHS and VCD and SVCD were lower quality to begin with. Converting and putting them on DVD gives a poorer quality video because the input was poor. Going from Video down to another format by compressing is naturally going to lower quality. Think of compression as a quality destroyer, the more you compress, the worse the quality. Copying factory discs requires decryption software, the factory discs are copyright protected. Then if the DVD is over 4.37GB, you either transcode (shrink it to fit) the 4.7 discs or burn to DL. Some transcoder apps include burner software and others don't. If not, you need a burner app. Decrypt, transcode if necessary and burn are the steps. Copying unprotected discs is just a mater of using copy software. You can burn those with Windows.
hey ,,,,,well after all the converting and trandscoding and burning it still was burnt as a VOB.....im not sure what i am doing wrong here.....
And there's no IFO file to go along with the VOB? What app did you use for the conversion? Did you at least get a VIDEO_TS folder that the VOB is inside?
hey hey....chill dude.....newb on board.....ok the file name say for eg i slike Findingnemodvdrip.avi when i go into properties it just says video clip......and associates windows media player to open it.......it says video clip for all the movies that i have downloaded....now i have burnt a dvd using m-pegs but they were all 60mb mpegs.....that worked......but nothing else has .....oh and i am using Cucusoft avi to dvd.....but since this isnt an actual .avi well...... Thanx for all ur help bud ur on my xmas card list this year .....lol
A new truck, beautiful babe, or a case of brew, in that order of preference dude. LOL If you've wanting to store and play on DVD, sounds like you need to convert those AVI to DVD compliant MPEG 2. I'm not familiar with the app you're using, Nero Vision 4 does a good conversion and burns. ConvertXtoDVD (aka DivXtoDVD) is one I've used as well, it converts and burns as well. If all the parts are there to start with, as in a movie stored to AVI, the conversion should work out. If just doing segments, try using FixVTS or VobBlanker to see if they will write an IFO for you (both free). Sounds like you need to visit ADs Digital video discussion section and check out the AVI topics.
I gather u are in the ol USA dude.....im in australia when u say truck 18wheeler kenworth comes to mind....we have a similar thingy to a "truck" that u refer to...http://www.holden.com.au/www-holden/action/vehicleentry?vehicleid=15 Thanx for all ur help brobear .....
Correct me if I am wrong. My experience with "off the shelf" dvd players are that they do not typically play .avi, .wma, .mpeg files, in order to play a file as a movie they have to have a structure that includes .vob files as the core of the data being played. So you need to use a converter like nero to create the .vob files, and the video files get stored in the video_ts folder and the audio file in the audio_ts folder along with allot of other control files. IF your dvd player has .avi playability then all you need to do is use a standard copy to copy the file to your dvd, sometimes refered to as "data" transfer. I hope I helped or am I completely off... Dom666au You're thinking tractor-trailor type trucks. Along those lines, here's what I think of when you say Australian truck. http://outbacktowing.tripod.com/ Bet they have trouble going around the block. Then there are some big rigs that aren't much fun around town here in the States. Does this look familiar? http://www.chevrolet.com/ssr/photogallery/ Good ole boys think of this as a truck. http://www.dodge.com/srt-10/index.html Now if they'd just make one in 4x4. lol This is more along the lines of what I was thinking of when I said truck.
duftopia Close. DVD compliant MPEG 2 is what you were referring to with IFO, BUP, and VOB files in a VIDEO_TS folder. To date, with DVDs I've checked personally, when there is an Audio_TS folder, there has been nothing in it when it comes to DVD movies. They put the sound track in the VIDEO_TS folder. Sometimes there isn't an AUDIO_TS folder included. As for the players, the older standalone players have been pretty much DVD ROM and R formats. Now some support DVD and CD in multiple formats. AVI formats such as DivX are commonly supported with those. So you and others understand, AVI is a package format comprised of various compression schemes. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AVI An AVI file may therefore carry audio/visual data inside the chunks in almost any compression scheme, including: Full Frames (Uncompressed), Intel Real Time Video, Indeo, Cinepak, Motion JPEG, Editable MPEG, VDOWave, ClearVideo / RealVideo, QPEG, MPEG-4, XviD, DivX and others.
Depends on software, hardware, and what you [bold]want[/bold] to do with it. What does Properties say about the Video Clip and what was the origin of the clip?
ok well when i go to properties....it says type of file Video Clip file compression divx r codec most of the files say for eg. findingnemodvdripdivx and they say the above in properties.... id like to burn these movies to dvd....im ready to give up lol......if it doesnt work i just might save all of them as data files...so i can free up some room on my hard drive....
