Here's the problem: - I'm trying to burn a 4 gb (yes, 4 gb) file from my HD to the DVD burner using nero6. - There is about 20g of HD space available. - About 80% of the way thru the "streaming" (before the burn), the computer craps out, saying there is no space left on the C:\ drive, which means it somehow took up all 20g of HD space (and in fact I did get a dialog box from Windows indicating there was less than 100mg of HD space left!) - I thought it was a virtual memory problem (256 mg) so I increased the size of the virtual memory, but the software crapped out anyway. - how the heck to you get a file that's 4 gb to burn to the DVD using Nero6? what am I doing wrong?
1st is the 4gig already on the HD or are you ripping to HD from a dvd? 2nd If its on the HD already, what format are the files in? It sounds like Nero is trying to convert the file format but you don't give enough info. If this was a dvd backup, all I do is open Nero Express, click dvd video, then add HD files into the VIDEO_TS folder that Nero already makes for you. But it sounds like you are trying something different. Jerry
- the 4G is already on the HD; it's the result of capturing a VHS tape to the HD, so it's on the HD in a MPEG2 format. I'm trying to burn the file to the DVD, but after about 80% of the way there, Windows stops the process indicating that the C:\ drive is full. Yet, I know that there is 22g of space available on the HD when I begin the operation. So somehow, during the converting process but before the actual burn, the file is morning into something rather large and I do not understand why. I have 256 mg of RAM on this machine and a 40 g HD which is above the minimum configuration for Nero. any help is appreciated.........
Ok, I haven't tried any of that yet, so I 'm not sure what Nero is doing to your file. Go to the forum start page and check out these 2 sections. Video Capturing from analog sources & VCD/SVCD. This is basically what you are trying to do. Your answer should be there. If not, post there. I'm sure someone can help. I'm sorry I can't be more help but I haven't tried to convert My VHS to DVD yet. Jerry
I have not tried to convert from VHS to DVD. However I have tried to convert from DVD to VCD. A 70 minute movie is about 700 mb on VCD but is about 3.5 gb on DVD. Following this ratio you would need about 25 to 30 gb to do the conversion. It might be an idea to checkout http://lordsmurf.com. His guides have alot of background on mpeg and dvd formats I hope this helps
