hi, just a simple question: is it possible to burn dvds (from an avi file) with a srt subtitle file using nero vision? right now, I am burning a dvd with "the film machine" ... but jesus! its taking it hours!! somebody knows if this is a good program? Im worried about the audio and subtitles sync... Ive had some bad results with other conversion programs can someone recommend a good software for this? or can nero do the trick? thanks btw
In terms of subtitled .avi's, yes it can be done. Although Nero seems to max-out it's resources, and more importantly overwhelms your CPU to 100% (that's why it's taking so long). An 1.5 hr. flick takes Nero over 3.0 hrs. to transcode. Even then the finished product, having been burned to DVD, doesn't play in SAP's. The more research, the more it seems the culprit is Nero's Codec. Only allows it to play w/Nero Digital Showtime (crap). Non-subtitled flicks, are a breeze with Nero. An 1.5 flick can take 25 min. to finish. I've not encountered CPU maxing, or inablility to play in SAP's. For subtitled flicks I use VobDub & VobSub freeware. Allows you to control all aspects of srt and ssa files. If you wish you can rip sub's. from the movie for ease of transcoding, then re-insert in perfect sync. Also allows you to control the sync process. Finally, I use DVDShrink for transcoding and never encounter the problems inherent with Nero. I'm a big fan of Nero, but Nero 7 is junk. Far too many bugs, and absolutely no support from Nero. Stick w/Nero 6 for now, VobDub, & DVDShrink. Good Luck !
@IchBinIch, Some versions are buggy, however this version is very reliable and is bug free,http://www.filehippo.com click on Nero 7.2.0.3 and then select 7.0.8.2 for a bug free version Uninstall your version run clean tool http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/Nero7_CleanTool.html and install 7.0.8.2...I think you'll be happy with it.
I didn't know Nero can handle subtitles. Therefore I use DVD Lab Pro, but it is not free (free to try). Here is a guide that I use to add subtitles. http://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=219535 The guide is a little outdated. I just use Nero to transcode my avi movie file to dvd format. Then I used DVD Lab Pro to add my subtitles. Hope that helps!
Gwendolyn - Thanks for the tip on Nero 7. I've been using the updated version for a couple of weeks and putting it to task. It's very stable and does a great job recoding all extensions/formats including .avi to DVD. Also, allows import of other codec's - nice feature if you want to keep the movie intact (i.e. beginning and end credits, etc.). Also, Nero 7 handles sub's relatively well, especially since sub's are not Nero's niche. Overall... impressed again ! Jimmy_Jam - I just thought of another potential prob. you may encounter when adding subs. Make sure the fps (frames per sencond) of your subtitle match the fps of the video before you begin the dub process. Otherwise subs will be out of sync. If you're interested in the VobDub & VobSub freeware, there's an excellent how-to guide here: http://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=272736
Could you explain how to use SRT files with Nero 7 , I don't really see an option or a place, after you add a Video file to be transcoded to also include a SRT file? If i have a movie that's in Two seperate AVI files and also two seperate SRT files, is there a way to run them all together through NERO 7? Thanks!
This is total crap, you CANNOT add subtitles with Nero VE 4 or any version. Nero sucks like that, otherwise it's the best DVD authoring prog around, I guess. Especially considering how easy it is to get ... nudge nudge, wink wink ... get it? I suppose IchBinIch is some company stoolie, better nick would be ..... IchBinNeroSalesman It is indeed amazing that Nero can not or will add this functionality to Vision Express .... the big DVD Authoring mystery of our time ...
