Please can someone help me...i have the dvdx copy 438 and it worked excellant till a few weeks ago and then i started having problems. I am not sure if it stops working correctly after a certain amount of uses or not. Then I installed the new software DVD neXt COPY and I couldn't even get it to burn one dvd. Then I removed it and then downloaded the trial version of the Clone DVD. With no success in buring just one dvd. I spent alot of money on dvdx copy 438. I have only had a few month. There are certain movies which I cannot burn with it. They were Fun with Dick and Jane....The wedding Planner...Signs and a few more. Could someone tell me what to do...or give me a name of a reliable software that I can burn exact copies of dvd movies that overrides the copy protection. Thank you!

CloneDVD can't copy movies w/ copy protection by itself. You'll need it's companion AnyDVD running in the background. It also has a 21 free trial. This combo is the easiest method and will handle anything out there right now.

Thank You...I didn't realize you needed something else to go with it. I did love the x copy but lately I have had more headaches than it was worth. Thanks! I will try that.

I think you'll love AnyDVD and CloneDVD even more than XCopy.
AnyDVD is updated often to handle anything new that comes out. I've been using it for awhile and no headaches :)
Here's a guide for both programs - you'll find they have more functionality and are easier to use than xcopy:

You can also try running AnyDVD in the background and see if your Xcopy will work. As for DVDneXTcopy, MHO is to stay away from that program, it gave me nothing but grief.

I read that and thoroughly appreciate it. But do I have to use a shrink...or can I go straight from dvd to dvd? I am so new to all of this.....almost overwhelming!!!!!

I have had atleast 6 movies lately that I cannot copy. I wasn't sure if it was me or the software. thanks to everyone for their commments.

You can try AnyDVD with your Xcopy and see if this will work. I can use it behind mine, but it sometimes works better if you do the whole movie and not just movie only. You can do a 1:1 copy but that is only if the movie will fit, i.e. DVD5 to DVD5 and DVD9 to Dual Layer DVD9 media. Otherwise, you need to compress. AnyDVD and CloneDVD are the two easiest program going. AnyDVD will just run in the background, open Clone and choose what you want to backup, make sure your settings are correct and it will compress and burn.

Are you trying to burn from a disk or a file that is already on your HDD. When the Clone page comes up choose what you want to do, the whole DVD or just DVD titles. On the next screen browse to where your file is, you can do this by clicking on the icon next to the title bar, choose your VTS file to open up the DVD. FWD&J has both widescreen/fullscreen on the disk, so if you are doing titles Clone will by default choose the larger of the titles which in this case is the widescreen, if you want a menu to go with your movie then check the box in the left corner that says preserve menus. On the next screen uncheck any subtitle or audio you do not want. Usually I only keep the 5.1 audio, many times if you keep the 2channel you get directors comments. Click next and on this screen choose where you want the file to go, HDD or burner. Put a disk in your burner drive, choose your burner, write speed and hit next.

This write is not capable of writing the source data as requested.

To write these DVD files, please use the "Copy DVD Titles" or "Clone DVD" option from the start screen.

That is the message I got when trying to write the files......after it nearly scared me to death....with that loud voice......OH NO!

    cathy,
First off are you now using clonedvd and anydvd? If so all you need to do is open anydvd and let it run in the background. next what you do is put the dvd in the drive then open clonedvd. Let the dvd load (about 10 seconds) then choose the middle option where it says clone movie and titles, the next page will open then in the upper right where it shows the icon of the yellow circular arrow (i believe that is what it is)click on that, then choose the vd_ts folder. Highlight and click ok. then hit ok. Now all you need to do is choose what you want to keep or not to keep by using the check boxes. make sure at the bottom it is set to dvd-5 as this is single layer. It will show you the compression ratio. You don't need to save to any folder as this program will automatically save the dvd files to a temp folder. Then it will use that temp folder to burn itself to dvd. You have to make sure that you are using good media too. Don't use any "staple" media or anystore name media like that. That could be why you are getting errors. make sure that the dvd you want to copy isn't scratched either. if you have any other probs let me know. you don't have to save the movie anywhere first if you don't want too.

You can either choose Copy DVDTitle or Clone DVD, I choose the title here

Next browse for your file, it can either be on your HDD or from your original disk, this is an original disk

    Choose your VTS file

You will see the movie title come up and is checked, check the box if you wish to preserve your menu, make sure your compression is 4430, it allows enough space at the end of the disk so you do not burn too close to the edge. Hit next

Choose your audio, uncheck that which you do not want, hit next

Choose your output to DVD Writer, and highlight your burner, then choose your burn speed 8x is okay 4x is better.

Hit next, and it should just go

As I stated FWD&J has both wide screen and full screen you can choose Clone DVD on the first page, but when the next page comes up uncheck one either the wide or full, it will make for a better backup, you will still get all the extras/menu but only one movie.
