I have got a couple of ISO files that i am trying to convert so i can play them on my stand alone DVD player (SONY NS430). I am using Nero 7 and it tells me disc burned sucessfully and they play fine on my pc however when i try and play them on my DVD player it plays the 1st 30 secs and then where the menu should be the player just stops and returns to its splash screen.

    can anyone help me?

If the burned disks play OK on your PC but not the standalone, the problem likley would be with the quality of the burn.

    - Use good quality media like Verbatim, Made in Japan labeled Sony/Fuji, or Taiyo Yuden.

    - Make sure your burner firmware is up to date. Firmware can be found at the manufacturer's web support site or firmware databases like the following. You can also do a google for firmware for your make and model:

    http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_all.php#S

    - Don't burn too fast. Limit the burn speed to half the rated speed of the media.

If your player is newer it shouldn't have any trouble reading either -R or +R media, but you could try the other format you're not using as well. If you're using +R media, booktype it when burning as DVD-ROM if your burner supports booktyping.

So this is happening with every ISO you burn?
What about disks you burned before these current problems arose?
Do they playback on the standalone OK? Have you tried playing them back on another standalone?
It could be the case that your standalone is just having playback problems. Does it playback other burned disks OK?

"I have got a couple of ISO files that i am trying to convert "

You cannot "convert" a disk image, anymore than you could convert
    a picture by printing it.

Some North American Sony players will not play PAL frame rates (25).

Are you sure the original file is NTSC? (or vice versa if you are not
    in N.A.)
Try another player, preferably not a brand name.
Get the latest version of GSpot. It can look at VOB files and tell
    you the frame rate.
    gspot.headbands.com
(Not to be confused with the Trojan of a similar name)
Windows doesn't care about frame rates, only the region code.

I may not explained myself very well. I am trying to use Nero to enable me to play these ISO files on my DVD player.

I used Gspot as you requested and it tells me the files are in PAL format which is fine as i live in the UK and my player is a PAL machine, i have also tried the disc on another cheap player and just like my Sony one it plays the intro fine but then when it should display the menu it just stops with a black screen.

I can't understand it as they play on my pc with no problems :(

I don't think you ever said what brand and format of media you're using. Use Nero or DVD Identifier to determine who the actual manufacturer is.

    If you're using +R, try a -R or v.v.

Can you use the chapter skip button to advance the video or is it just permanently stuck?

Sometimes PC software players ignore DVD flags that standalones do not. Maybe if these were downloaded ISOs, they were authored incorrectly, especially the menu. Are these compilations of TV shows to which somone has added a menu?

Is it just these particular ISOs causing problems or is it all DVDs you burn?

Menu authoring: good point. So, is this a commercial disk, or a home-made compilation?
One way to trouble-shoot would be to use NeroVision to only burn the Main VOB file(s) of one movie/program. The menu is always the small stuff at the top of the list and the VOB files are in a group, typically two or three big files. Try pulling out one selection (ISObuster/WinISO) or whatever you can find, and burning only that selection. (NeroVision will rebuild the IFO and BUP files.)
NeroShowtime plays VOB files nicely so you can preview what you have chosen to verify you have a complete move/program before actually burning.
    Finally:
You don't have to use the existing menu system: just pull out the actual movies/programs and use NeroVision to build a new disk, (if you can successfully burn and play the individual programs VOBs).
You can always practice using an existing good DVD that plays on your stand-alone player.
