I'm having real problems with Nero. I can copy from disk to disk, and I was even able to recode a dvd. However, when I try to burn simple mp3 files to cd, the software fails. I'm attaching the log. Another thought: I ripped them off of a PASTE cd sampler, wanted to create another, Best of Paste out of the many I have. Is there a way to know whether a track is drm or not? Or do you just have to risk losing cdrs? What can you look out for? Which will copy and which won't? I've been going crazy working with my new Nero software, up long nights, banging my head against the wall. My wife says it's taking years off my life!
They are actually Windows Media Audio files, .wma. Don't know enough about them as I've never used the format. Microsoft is big on DRM (Digital Rights Management) so I assume this is the problem. Mp3's would have an .mp3 extension. I would suggest you stick with mp3's especially if you choose to rip your own to your hard drive. As a test you can download a few from here (legal stuff) then see if Nero will create an audio CD from them, it should. http://www.3hive.com/ Use Nero Express (make sure you choose the [CD-R/RW] option from the drop down), choose Music-> Audio CD and add the mp3's then burn them If you want to make mp3's on your drive get CDex. Take some time to set it up and choose the LAME encoder. Lower bitrates, say 128, will produce smaller files but with less sound quality, at 192 they sound pretty good. A VBR 128-320 setting will sound great. From the pull down in encoding choose -alt -preset -standard for near perfect sound. http://cdexos.sourceforge.net/index.html
Thanks a lot! So I'm still putting this together; when I rip a cd into Windows Media Player it's a wma file. How does an mp3 file get created or can a wma be converted into an mp3? Should it? And what's a cda? There's so much to know. I'm trying to understand the logic of all this. I'm not a techie and don't tend to think like one. I'm learning, though. Slowly. I haven't downloaded music, since I was nervous about viruses, etc. I'd like to try it, since I'm missing out on a lot. When I get home from work, I will try your suggestions. Thanks again!
