Hi I wonder if anyone can provide me with some advice. I have been copying DVDs with no problems for the last three months. From last week I cannot burn to DVD. My burner will read and write DVDs to my hard drive but I can no longer burn to dvd. Though I can still burn CDs. I use Decrypter and Shrink. I think my probles started when I tried to copy a scratched DVD which my drive stopped reading half way through - could this have damaged my lens? Could I have a defective lens.
It sounds more like a software issue to me. If you can still burn CD's there is nothing wrong with the burner. Make sure that the burn with DVDdecrypter ticked so that it will open dvddecrypter and commense the burn. If it will not, try uninstalling and reinstalling the software programs, i.e. DVDdecrypter and shrink. Possibly you got a corrupted file. You can get fresh downloads here: http://mrbass.org/dvdrip/ http://mrbass.org/dvdshrink/ http://www.imgburn.com Imgburn is the same burn engine as DVDdecrypter (updated) but not a ripper. I use it instead of DVDdecrypter to burn. Cheers.
No mention of the sytems age or a brand and model for the burner. In case the software fix doesn't work; I had an older burner that went bad. It still reads, burns CDs and DVD RWs. It just won't write to DVD R. I replaced the drive and the new one works fine. Now I use a dual burner setup. If one starts acting funny, all I have to do is try the other to see if it's a hardware or software problem. Nowadays a decent burner costs little more than a ROM, unless a person wants one of the top end units. If you have one available, the easy check is to switch out the drive.
I agree with brobear, I used to have a burner that after awhile decided it didn't like ripped media, with everything else it was fine. After checking the software choices this maybe your next step.

http://www.freecom.com/firmware.asp?form1=true&form2=true&serie=12600&Manufactures=12600 Freecom has phone support as well as online support. The only model number I saw close to yours was a 16H9 and yours reads 16H8. Your firmware is FR00 and Freecom appears to have later versions, you may want to call on yours. The Nero software version is a bit old, you may want to update that. I suggest 6.6.0.18 instead of the newer 6.6.1.4 which has caused some people trouble. Links have been posted around here somewhere. I went with Nero 7, but a lot of people are hanging on to the 6. DL burning is supposed to be better with 7. I didn't get it just for that though. The CMC manufactured TTH02 media is a bit on the questionable side. I'd try something else with Made in Japan on it, to be on the safe side for test purposes. What brand is your media, we already know who manufactured it? Just curious. By any chance is this an external drive? Let us in on your system, and some specs. It helps sometimes. You need to get a mod to move the thread to Nero Discussion for best coverage on reading Nero logs. Once you get everything up to par do another burn. If it's not okay and you need help, post the new log. [bold]To Do list:[/bold] Firmware, check to see if an update is needed. Software, update. Media, get good media. There's a number of name options Sony, Verbatim, and Taiyo Yuden for instance. Remember MIJ. There's more good media, just the MIJ is easier to locate before purchase.
thread teleported to Nero forum.. i've also subscribed to see if there's anything i can add; at the moment i can see Roxio is installed, which can cause problems with Nero (i believe brobear has Roxio and various other programs co-existing, however it's not brobear who's having burn problems so i'd suggest uninstalling Roxio for now and fully uninstalling it via Roxio Zapper - http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Uninstallers/Roxio-Zap.shtml
Just noticed near top of logfile that your nero does indeed need updating (I'm on handheld so can't copy/paste, but it's the couple of lines where is says something like "connected to mmc recorder" or similar - those 2 lines means Nero is too old to recognise your dvd burner correctly and its only recognised generically.. edit- - those were the 2 lines i meant..
Update to this version which is bug free from either of these links. http://httpdl2.usw.nero.com/Nero-6.6.0.18.exe http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/Nero-6.6.0.18.exe
Just a suggestion, you may want to adjust the burn parameters a little lower as you are burning very close to the edge of the media. On lesser quality media the dye spread is not as evenly spread near the edge and burning there may cause playback issues. Now with quality media, some burn right to the edge without issues.
@Kevthekev Seems we're all in agreement and Gwendolin was nice enough to supply the software update link for you. Let us know how it's going or if you're still running into trouble after the updates and better media.
Success!!!! I am now happily burning again. Guys, Took your advice and updated Nero and changed media. I was using imation DVD+R 8x..... crap discs. Changed to Verbitan DVD+R 8X and also reinstalled Decryptor & Shrink and burned at 4x. Thank you so much for your help. 1'm off to do some more burning. Cheers Kevthekev
