pixelations, freezing, skipping are usually caused by:

    1. crappy media
    2. burning too fast
    3. dirty disk or scratchs

    here are tips for you:

    1. burning speeds: burn at 4x so there will be less writing errors (rule of thumb is to burn at half the rated speed of the disk--8X disk burn at 4x).
    2. read manual for your stand alone player and use the disks that will play in your player. If your player is less than 2 yrs old then it should play the + or - R disks! I said SHOULD that's why you read the manual.
    3. try booktyping your drive to DVd-ROM so it will make your +R disks more compatible to players. Read this:
    http://k-probe.com/bitsetting-booktype-faq.php
    4. make sure that there are no finger prints or scratches on your disk that make it hard for the player to read the disk!
    5. use good quality media (rule of thumb....buy the ones that are Made in Japan.) Verbatim is a top notch disk and is the only exception to this rule....some Verbatims are made in Taiwan and they are top notch!
    6. and don't burn too close to the outer edge of the disk ..... which will make the disk unreadable! but using good media you will be able to burn close to the edge better than lesser quality media. Just in case I only burn no closer than 4400MB, so if you can set your programs to that, all the better!

follow these little tips of the trade and you'll have better success! good luck.

    also read this:

why the +R media is better than the -R media

it all has to do with your media! What disks are you using to burn to? And are you coping a DVD movie or are you converting an AVI that you downloaded from the internet to DVD? It's obvious that you aren't using good media (Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Maxell, Sony......[bold]Made-In-Japan[/bold]) that's why you can only burn at 2x..... your burner will only recognize your media to burn to that speed. Maybe you need a firmware update....... what burner do you have?

converting an AVI thats downloaded from the internet to DVD , it isnt the disk because if i say go to nero go to make new dvd video and then ''instead of copying it to disk'' i copy it to image burn or copy to folder in a Video_TS folder mode it is still full of pixels . I am using Traxdata thay was recomended by the guy at the pc super store i know nothing about what are good quality and what are not maybe he seen me coming and was not selling them well and fobbed me of with them . But it is like this when i copy to hardrive or a TS folder so not just disk's

    thanks .

just as I thought..... there is something wrong with the file you downloaded. and those Trax disks are crappy media! here is a media guide for you...... all it will show you is that your Trax disks are not top notch...... get yourself some Verbatim or Sony, Maxell,or any disks [bold]MADE IN JAPAN[/bold]!

    http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

and what you downloaded was just a poor AVI file. you have to be careful to know that sometimes downloading files can be corrupted to the point the quality will pixelate or freeze or skip just like crappy media! garbage in, garbage out.

try using a different converting program..... seems that Nero isn't doing the job for you..... what version of Nero do you have? Some versions are buggy....

try ConvertXToDVD .....it's a great program and does a great job and you can burn right to disk after conversion if you set it correctly. The free version puts a logo in the final conversion but you can see if it works for you...... then you can buy the program if you like:

The answer that IHoe is looking for is something like 7.2.3.2 or similar...go to StartSmart, select Info Tools and then locate Nero7 version number...and post that
