    Using a 48x burner, is there any optimum speed to burn music cdr's?
    I'm using these for archiving.
    Thanks!

    the slower the better upto a point. i usually do about 16x for data as older rom drives has a problem reading high speed burnt cd's.

    @geezer5

    Im with Killerc the slower the better and 4x speed i would say is the optimum speed cause u will have the least skips and error tracks

    4x and what CDR's are u using sometimes media can b an issue as is when it comes to DVD's

    Guess there's no universal rule. you hear a lot about slower-is-better, but this from a media faq (from another board):

    "Very slow burn speeds are not good when using high speed media in a high speed drive. It's also true that you can almost always improve the quality of your burn by lowering the burn speed a "little bit". For example, my 52x drive can produce very acceptable quality discs at 48x on the right media, but quality improves even more if I burn at 40x. I see very little, if any, improvement in quality by lowering the burn speed to 32x, and decreasing quality below 24x. With older, low-speed rated media you might see better quality at very slow burn speeds, but again the best thing is to try it and test it."

    if playing on your equipment than try at different speeds to see if any difference or difficulties at various burn speeds.

    @ ddp if you burn at a highspeed would the song get a little chopy and the louder you play the music, the worst it gets as for burning at 4x the louder you got the sound quality doesnt get so bad ?

    depends on the burner, the player & media. a friend of mine burns music cds usually about 24x & that is with 52x burner.

    i think geezer5 hit it on the head .theres no need to drop 52X media(being that its good blank media) with a good burner (Plextor in my case) below half its rated speed. ive burned 100s if not 1000s of cds and never have a sound quality issue burning at a higher speed . so burning below 32X or 16X is really a waste of time.The most important thing is have good blank media and a good system to backup your cds
