Windows XP Nero 6 AND Roxio 8 dvd dycrytper, dvd shrink AND dvd43 Memorex double layer dvd recorder (32023292) (master) Memorex dvd player (no part number - Im at work!) (slave) I'll be searching the various guides on the Read this First! thread, but I want to cover all bases and get this thing solved. The dvd dycrytper, shrink and dvd43 programs are not the issue, unless there is some conflict issue between them. Disks that without any protection issues are unable to be copied. These programs appear to do what they need to do. My problems: When using Roxio 8, the drives are incompatible with each other. I've swapped out and used alternate drives...same deal. Note that both drives here are Memorex. I just bought the recorder listed above YESTERDAY. When using Nero, I can't quite tell, but it seems that it allows me to start with two drives, but it never finishes. It starts the project but always fails, citing several error messages. The last one was something like "failed to read". I've had Nero and Roxio in some form for a while. The recording success record was always shaky, but worked most of the time. 1) I updated Nero 2) upgraded Roxio. After I updated Nero, it went worse and I haven't been able to copy/burn dvd's since (cd's ok), and the upgrade to Roxio ($50) made no difference. Before the update, I had no problem linking my drives on either roxio or nero. Using the web, I stumbled accross dvd-shrink...to no avail. Any ideas? Any info I can give that would help solving? Are Nero and Roxio conflicting with each other? Are they both just terrible programs in the end? Thanks for the help in advance! crumbles
Yes Nero and Roxio conflict with each other. You need to choose which 1 you want. Most members including myself prefer Nero over Roxio. You will need to uninstall both programs and get registry cleaners for the programs. Nero clean tools -----> http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/Clean_Tools.html Roxio Zap(Gets rid of Roxio registry etc) ---> http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Uninstallers/Roxio-Zap.shtml Make sure you download and run those tools that clean out Nero and Roxio. After you uninstall and clean the programs from your registry you then can install whatever program you decided to use.
Hi, Is it known that Roxio will fight with other burning software. I have Nero and VSO CopyToDVD (Actually the whole VSO Suite) and have no issues, since VSO uses their own Patin Couffin Driver. Personally, I would decide to keep Nero or Roxio but not both on the same system. My 2 cents...
Bitchin, guys. I'll report back with findings. Also, it looks like AnyDVD and CloneDVD come highly regarded. After working with what I have, maybe I'll try their trial versions.
If you have an Ultra version of Nero you should have Nero Recode 2 with it. This program is simlier to CloneDVD2. The author of DVD Shrink actully works for Nero now and programs Nero Recode2. Whatever program you use Nero Recode2 or CloneDVD2 you still will need AnyDVD to run in the background. AnyDVD strips the copy protection off the DVD's so you can back them up. You can get a package deal if you buy both AnyDVD and CloneDVD2 from slysfot. Or you could just buy AnyDVD and use Nero Recode2 if you have an Ultra version of Nero. That could save you some money. Just giving you some information to think about.
Hold on. For burning mix cd's I'm really used to Roxio. I can fade in and out, move the last track up to the first track, etc. etc. I love the classic creator interface and hate the roxio one. Any suggestions for a similar replacement? Also, how does Any DVD compare with dvd43? In terms of stripping, I've never had an issue with dvd43.
What I did I setup a HD without Nero or Roxio Then Copied that OS to a 2nd HD and installed Nero on it then I copied the first drive to a 3rd HD and installed Roxio on it I switch them out to have the best of both worlds if one drive crashes I just copy The OS agin from drive one. Sounds like a lot of work but its not and its sweet to have it your way when you want it.
That's very good point. On the other hand dvd43 is free and anydvd isn't. I'll think about it and use the trial though. That's a creative way of having both programs, rbrock, but I just can't justify taking up that much space for another copy of xp. I'm already planning to get another 500gb drive to hold my files (music, mostly). Is there an alternative program that acts similar to classic cd creator?
Thats 3 160 gig drives that i switch out also i use a 160 slave to save anything and use the slave for temp movie burning files so it dose not frag the hell out of you master drive
Update... Thanks to all who piped up. All very useful. When I got home, I uninstalled Roxio and Nero, then wiped them using the programs suggested. Then I updated my firmware for both drives. Then I downloaded and installed anydvd and dvdclone2. Anydvd 's installation prompted me to uninstall dvd43 ....sure, it's free if I want to reinstall. Restarted. Re-installed Nero (I have so many copies, I just used the disk from my recent Memorex burner purchase - I might have a non-oem version somewhere). Restarted. Now, with everything in place and the little gew-gaws checked (thanks, ScubaPete!) and all other programs closed, I was ready to roll. Test subject: Public Enemy, Cagney's starmaking film - under 90 mins, plus several extras for a total of just over 2hrs. I used DVD+R and a combo of TDK and Maxell's...not the best, but not the worst either. Should I be using DVD-R? (looks like FUJI is the best media that's easy to find) 1. Started with Dvdclone. Error in writing. I didn't write down, but essentially: "this file is too large, use dvdclone "x" or "y" option" (I thought I did! I used the option to record all files, including menus and extras, then I x'd out the unneeded ones. At least I thought I did.). Somewhat discouraged by the failure of the most heralded software, I moved on... 2. Just the Nero OEM. Again, using the option where you can pick and choose what extras you want, I then used "Advanced Burn" for the cleanest copy. Again, failure. I didn't write down the error message (sorry!), but I had several other burning methods to research. 3. Using DVDShrink, I got further, but in the end failed...this time I DID copy the error message (yay for me). Using google, I searched the error message, and ta-da Afterdawn forums struck again with the answer: my installed version of Nero needs to be upgraded. So I uninstalled Nero again, wiped it, then went to the upgrade link. Apparently Nero 7 costs like $80.00. Since I have an OEM, I could get a $15.00 discount. 4. Not so happy about spending $65, I tried Dvdclone once again,this time using the option that just records the media (in this case the entire film, without menus). And it worked...but I used the previous files from the dvdshrink attempt and for some reason, sound didn't work. 5. Final go: using the option to copy all the menus, etc (and leaving off a few extras)...Success! Pristine and pretty. The crowd goes wild. My money is on its way to AnyDVD and CloneDVD for full versions. As I sit here not working, my home computer is testing another dvd: this time a long one (Pride Fighting Critical Countdown 2005), where dvdclone says the end result will be 53% quality. Fingers crossed for that one. Quality isn't the issue. I just want to see if it works. Now the questions: 1. On dvds like this longer disk, I think that I'd like to split them (to be uniform, lets say right in half). As I recall, dvdshrink has that capability. But man, I'd rather not shell out $65 for the new Nero. Any alternatives? Is there a way to split using dvdclone or use it with dvdshrink? 2. Can I just install the non-dvd bits of Roxio to use the cd building software that I like so much? What if I decide not to reinstall Nero? Does Roxio conflict with dvdclone? 3. Why did Dvdclone fail the first attempt? There's not a lot of options to mess with on it. The software is VERY streamlined. I'm still puzzled by it. i just bought a 50 pack dvd-r verbatim 16x but everytime i try to burn a game onto it.it always gives me an error sayin could not burn end of disc...but when i use memorex dvd+r 16x it always seems to work fine...i need some serious help.....

ok lemme start over....my dvd drive only supports a maximum of 8x dvd-r and a maximum of 16x for dvd+r..i just bought a 50 pack dvd-r 16x verbatim....i realised that i need a firmware upgrade but im not sure were to get it...i think the type of drive i have is lite-on sohw-1633s...

crumbles I have the best luck with Verbatim 16x DVDR- I use DVD Shrink I reauthor the movie and rip the main movie only no menus no extras I then Save as ISO file and burn with Decrypter at 4x speed. Of course I must run AnyDVD in the background. The're outher ways to burn this is what i use most of the time.

rbrock, Thanks for looking into my problems. 1. Verbatim and Fuji's DVD-R's from now on! 2. I used 8x speed, which seems fine. 3. For the long (3.5hr) media, I'd very much like to split onto 2 disks. 53% quality is just not going to cut it. Dvdshrink has this capability, but I think it only works in conjuction with Nero 7, and not with dvdclone. Can anyone confirm this? I thought I had dycrypter, but evidently not. I'll find it and try it out. Not sure how that works with shrink in splitting media either. 4. Generally, on media of a more typical length (about 2hours), I much prefer to have menus (which don't take much space anyway), but agree that on longer media, every little bit counts. 5. any thoughts on the compatibility of the non-dvd aspects Roxio (7 or 8...I have both) and dvdclone (and dycrypter while we're at it). Any conflict issues between dvdclone, decrypter, or Nero? 6. Finally, any thoughts on what may have gone wrong with dvdclone on my first inaugral attempt? (see above for description). Afterdawn rocks. I think I'm about to the level where I don't have to ask all these newbie questions, but it helps to have these direct answers.
