Hello. I have read about why AVI files expand a lot when you convert them into the DVD format. However I am still confused on one thing. I have a box set of a hour long TV show. Each DVD has 4 episodes, 42 min a piece. When I try to burn 4 episodes of a TV show that is less than 30 min per episode myDVD Premier 8 says that it is too long. The most I have been able to fit on one DVD are 2 episodes (less than 30 min each).

The original files are in the AVI format (I had to download DIVX in order for them to play on my computer).
    Here are the AVI specs:
    - The file size of the AVI's are no more than 401,408 KB
    - The smallest AVI file is 382,334 KB
    - The resolution of the video is 576 x 432

As stated before I use myDVD Premier 8 to make my DVD.

My DVD burner is a NEC DVD RW ND 3550A
I have burned successful DVDs with this before.
    I use SONY DVD-R 120min/4.7GB 1X-16X burning speed.

I have tried to give as much info as I could. If anymore is needed just give me a reply. I greatly appreciate it.

PS: I've searched on this forum for a post similar to mine, but I have had no luck. I found how to burn 1 AVI to one DVD, but not multiple AVI's to one DVD. I have done my best to avoid a repeated post.

Hi, I use nerovision to do up to 5 episodes (42 mins. each) onto a DVD. The thing is when you start it will create a file over 8 GB large. Gives you warning and such but just ignore them.I can't remember if nerovision does the condensing or if I used shrink after that (been awhile since I've done it) but the point is it has to be reduced from that larger file.
I've actually gone from converting to just putting the files onto a data DVD so they stay the same size so I can get a full season of most shows onto one DVD for backup purposes and then I found I tend to watch them on the computer anyway.

It's all about the video bitrate. Find where you can adjust it, it will have to be lowered. Many apps like you are using have presets like 'High Quality' which max out the bitrate, 9000+, and will fit one hour on a blank. See if there is a lower 'Standard play', as it's called in Nero, that will allow more. For 2 hours of video on a blank you need a bitrate of about 4800.

Remember it's not about the size of the AVI file, it's about the time in minutes.

As an example in NeroVision Express High is 9716, Standard is 5017, Long Play is 3382 (which will allow almost 3 hours on a blank). Most apps will allow you to enter a number directly rather than use a preset. Keep playing with it till your stuff fits.
