After trying countless times to figure this out, I am clueless. I have the VOB files from a ripped DVD, and have burned them as per this thread advises using nero: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/230153 The DVD plays fine in my Philips player, but when I try it on the other two players in the house (Sony SLV-D560P and CyberHome CH-DVD 300) I get an error display on the Sony player, and nothing happens on the CH as there is no on player display. Can anyone offer advice if there is a way to burn a DVD so it can be played in any player, or did I do it correctly and the 2 DVD players just suck? thanks for any feedback
Hi purebad Let's start with these questions to try and sort this out: What brand, format and rated of media are you using? Ex. Sony 8x +R What's the make and model of your drive? What speed did you burn at?
Ok - how about the brand name of them? Are they +r or -r? Still need the answers for the other questions too
Ok the 2 players both support the -R format. The Cyberhome also supports +R. Make sure the firmware is up to date on the drive too - the latest is JWS6 http://www.memorex.com/html/download_software_now.php?CID=11&PID=872&SWID=375 If you need help with this just post back. Take the burn speed down to 6x or 4x. The media you are using is good too. Playback problems causes are usually burn speed/media/firmware related.
yup, I made sure to update the firmware as well before asking questions, so perhaps I will just slow it down then...
ok I just burned at 4x, still gives me an error on the sony, but works on the cyberhome now. Wil trying it at 6x matter? I just dont want to keep wasting DVDs
Probably not - a quick google did not give 'glowing' remarks on this model. But people only report the bad more often than the good. Can't blame you on not wanting to waste more discs on this drive. It does look like you're doing things right - if not than more than likely all players won't play them. So for the Sony it's finding what media/burn it does like. Any burned ones play in it before? Another suggestion is using a lens cleaner on it - the lens can get dusty and may help.
In some reading, I have seen where some people say that DVD+R yield better compatiblity results across many DVD players. This is a new DVD player, so I haven't tested many burnt DVDs on it. However the old one I had (Sony DVP-NS315)I recall it working with these discs on one burn, as far as I remember it was a 8x burn, but it might have been an ISO I was burning.
Well -R has a higher compatability w/ players but +R can be booktyped to DVD-Rom making them almost universally compatible. DVD Decrypter will booktype, Nero booktypes or you can use the LiteOn utility to name a few progs hat will do this. http://us.liteonit.com/us/index.php?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=152 An iso shouldn't make a diff on playback. Believe or not a lens cleaner even on the drives can sometimes make a diff. May not in this case but my mom was having problems w/ backups on Taiyo's that I do for her on a new player. Run the lens cleaner and viola! now worked.
