For some reason files I've ha don hard drove are now only buring at a rate of 4x.

    Memorex DVD-R 16x media & Office Max DVD-R 8x media & HP DVD-R 16x

Any idea how to increase speed back to 8x would really help

    Hi goodjam
Well the media you using isn't always made by better manufacturers so may be part of the problem.
Better to use is Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden.

    Burner's firmware up to date?

Check and make sure all drives are in DMA mode and not PIO. Here's a guide.

You may want to start using a spell checker at some point.... Your words seem to lack endings.

Check and make sure your DMA is enabled.

Memorex media is pure crap and the others listed are not much better so try some Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim or Hitachi Maxell (Made In Japan).

and it's still running at the same speed.
Could it be because I'm showing 2 devices for the Pri & the 2nd?

May not be a problem at all- have a dual core processor?

If your primary and secondary channel show current transfer mode DMA your okay there. If the 'duplicates' show not applicable ok there too just means no drive attached to it.
    Nothing showing in PIO mode?

    Burners firmware up to date?

Both are showing the same thing no PIO
I'll try a diff type of media and see what happens

    Try the brands above.

Did you update the firmware on the burner?

    Keep us posted

I went back to the not so good GQ brand of Fry's Elect and I'm getting a 8x burn.

Then it's definitely looking like your drive didn't like the other manufactuers of the discs you were using.

Still don't know if your firmware on the drive is up to date. If it's not best to keep it update. This can help avoid future problems.
