So I got a burner a few weeks ago... The software I have is crap. All I've found that's good and I can get is Nero, but first I have to convert my now .mpg's (previously DivX) to .vob's. I have scoured the net to find any program that does this, but all I've come up with is programs to convert .vob to .mpg. >.> Can anyone shed some light on a possible solution?

Note: I tried the UDF 1.02 option, but my 2 year old DVD player and PS2 won't read it.

Why do you want to do that? What type of mpg do you have and what do you want to do exactly? You may be barking up the wrong tree.

MPEG-2 and I want to play it on my PS2 meaning It can't be a data disk or a DVD-/+RW.

Ps2's will play dvd's so the question you should be asking is how to convert avi to dvd. The easiest way is throught TMPGEnc and then use a program like Ulead DVD Workshop or Pinnacle Impression DVD Pro, which will make vob's for you out the mpg from TMPGEnc. The resulting dvd will be compatible with a ps2 (well, should be, if not, try alternative media!!)

so Unlead will convert to .vob, so even if that doesn't work, I can then try using Nero. That's what I needed to know, thank you very much.

From .vob files, yes it can. it can also take a mpg that was encoded by tmpgenc or whatever and split it into .vobs for dvd playback!

dela, thanks for the quick message just orderd a new system from www.ibuypower.com with a pioneer dvd-r burner. I'm just trying to figure these things out and figure out which software to use. Here is maybe a dumb question. could I use a video capture card to capture video from my dvd player (say for 1 episode of a soprano's disc) then in theory could I author my own dvd with ulead dvd workshop. Ex. make my own menu and have it play the episode. If this will work will it be dvd quality?

You can of course author your own dvd with dvd workshop. as for the files on the disk, they will be in .vob files so check em all out and see which one has the espisode you want or whatever

Crap... Unlead DVD Workshop is $300... Can't find it on Kazaa either. Is there perhaps a cheaper way to go?

Try Ulead's DVD MovieFactory2. It's a cheaper, no frills version, as I understand, of their Workshop. You can download a trial version of either one at their website. Give them a try before buying either one. Sonic's DVDit is just as expense as Workshop. What software is coming with your burner? Check before buying anything. You may have a LE version of one of these programs included.

I got the trial for Unlead DVD Workshop. I installed it and opened it. It gave me some crap about Quicktime and then wouldn't let me do anything. o_O... Looking into it now.

P.S. risky4me_, thanks, I'll look into the DVD Movie Factory-2
