Burns keep hanging-please look at log

i am trying t write a data disk in nero and my burns keep hanging. it does this with video burns also. it used to work fine.

i am using a toshiba p4 laptop with 512 ram and an eternal nec3520a. the errors at the end of each burn are from me turning off the drive. it is the only way to exit the program once it hangs.

Have you tried burning with a program other than Nero? DVD Decrypter?
Have you tried other brands of media?
Have you tried a different data cable?

I'm assuming you placed the burner in an external enclosure yourself. Have you tried a different enclosure? There is a humungous thread in the forums on problems with burners in external enclosures exhibiting problems. I've experienced it myself and solved the problem by switching enclosures.

You might also uninstall Nero, use the Nero Clean Tool (download from www.nero.com), and then reinstall Nero and update it.

Let us know if any of this helps and be sure to get back if the problem persists.

 

I went ahead and removed all of the sonic software, i think that is where the roxio driver came from.
how do i fix the ATAPI problem?
I will make sure all other prgrams are closed out.


as for the external case, i am using the case from an i/o magic drive i replaced with the nec 3520a drive. I am having the drive itslef replaced through newegg, should i go ahead and buy a new case?

which case is a good one?

 

jsut wanted to add I am using TY media from supermedia store and have tried two data cables to no avail. i have also tried burning eith deepburner and ghost, both hang the same way.

No, [bold]ATAPI, detected: ?[/bold] is the usual notation for external burners. At least it is for all my external burners.

 

I was able to fix the problem. on the back of the 3520a drive itself there is a jumper for slave, master, or cable select. I had it set to master. once i removed this jumper completely it works like a charm. thanks for the help.

 

Congrats, although this does beg the question as to why the drive used to work with the same setting!

 

it sure does. the drive didn't start acting up until i installed another external usb hard drive and ghost to make backup images. now everything is working great. i have burned every which way you can imagine with no problems. i even burned a movie from the external hard drive to the external burner.
