Any help would be VERY helpful... Thanks in advance...
welcome to Afterdawn...... and being new here then you don't know that pixelations, freezings, and skipping of the burned movie means you used crappy media. If you burned on good media you would have a sucessful copy of the movie and would play properly on your stand alone player...... here are some helpful hints on what to do to keep your burned DVDs with better quality and more compatible with stand alone players: there are plenty of reasons why certain dvds won't play in other players: 1. burning speeds: burn at 4x so there will be less writing errors (rule of thumb is to burn at half the rated speed of the disk--8X disk burn at 4x). 2. read manual for your stand alone player and use the disks that will play in your player. If your player is less than 2 yrs old then it should play the + or - R disks! I said SHOULD that's why you read the manual. 3. try booktyping your drive to DVd-ROM so it will make your +R disks more compatible to players. Read this: http://k-probe.com/bitsetting-booktype-faq.php 4. make sure that there are no finger prints or scratches on your disk that make it hard for the player to read the disk! 5. use good quality media (rule of thumb....buy the ones that are Made in Japan.) Verbatim is a top notch disk and is the only exception to this rule....some Verbatims are made in Taiwan and they are top notch! 6. and don't burn too close to the outer edge of the disk ..... which will make the disk unreadable! but using good media you will be able to burn close to the edge better than lesser quality media. Just in case I only burn no closer than 4400MB, so if you can set your programs to that, all the better! follow these little tips of the trade and you'll have better success! good luck. also read this: http://www.cdfreaks.com/print/article/113 why the +R media is better than the -R media here is a media guide to help you understand what media is good and what is crappy: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm here are some guides for you: http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/guides.htm don't know what programs you have to use to burn your movies that are on the hard drive? here are some other programs that many members love and use all the time: DVDDecrypter, download it from here: http://fileforum.betanews.com/download/DVD_Decrypter/1011845169/1 RipIt4Me is a great program and it's free. Download the programs and try it out: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/360110, Although this program is not updated any more it's one of the best free programs that does EVERYTHING and still works for older movies that are at least a year old or older. And even works with some newer movies that didn't put in the newer encryptions. Use the guides that I gave you (above). DVDFab Decrypter download it from here: http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm when DVDDecrypter can't rip the movie to the hard drive(newer encryptions---the new movies) then use this program to rip to the hard drive.... it's free AnyDVD & CloneDVD2 download it from here: http://www.slysoft.com/en/ this is not freeware..... but it lets you have a 21 day trial period to use the programs and they work great on new movies and old and are updated often. So if new encryption come out on those new movies just released these programs will already have the updates! Shrink download from here: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd_... this is another freeware program that does many movies and you can reauthor a movie to the way you want it... good program for newbies with the guides and these programs you should be well on your way to burning DVDs to your hearts content! enjoy........ . keep your firmware up do date..... this will make your writer recognize all the disks and burning speeds and other improvements with the software of your drive. http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_all.php just some things to consider when burning DVDs..... there are many more things to learn but this is a good start! If you want to read more and learn more then this is a good thread to read: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/183136 I hope this helps you out! good luck. And welcome to Afterdawn!
