This happens. I have burned DVDs which work fine in my cheap DVD player but won't play in my friends expensive model.

Try a couple of these things also:

Better media, like Taiyo Yudens or Verbatims. Better quality media will play better and be more compatible with other players. Identify the manufacturer using this tool: http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/

Try selecting the DVD bookmarking feature of your burning software. If you bookmark your DVDs as DVD-ROMs, they will play on more standalone players.

These may help with compatibility with some of your standalones in the future.

@rayray200........you have a media problem..... here is a media guide for you: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm
use the program that FFsp42 told you to get (DVDIdentifier) and you can check out the manufacturers ID and see where they stack up on the media guide. I personally stick with Taiyo Yuden.... and I use DVD+Rs so I can booktype the disks to DVD-ROM which makes players think it's playing a store bought DVD! here is how you can do it for your DVD burner (if it can.... some burners can't do this): http://k-probe.com/bitsetting-booktype-faq.php
and then read why the +R media is better than the -R media:
    http://www.cdfreaks.com/reviews/Why-DVDRW-is-superior-to-DVD-RW/

Using better media makes your disks more compatible to most players.
