Burnt DVDs won't play in DVD player (file extention & Disc type match what ithe s in manuel)

    i have a magnavoz DVD player I bought at walmart for $29, the disk type DVD-R matches with what is in user-manuel and so does file format ( MPEG2 )...what is it i am doing wrong...i get an error saying 'disk read error"

    Does the burned DVD disk contain an authored movie (an authored movie disk contains at least a 'VIDEO_TS' folder and the folder contents are .VOB .IFO .BUP files) or simply MPEG-2 files that have been burned as data.

    It was simply a movie that I got from my neighbor that i backed up (using Magic DVD ripper) and burnt to a disk...then gave the original back
