stay as far away from vista as you can as long as you can.

I agree with Auslander, just buy it now while they still come with XP pre-installed.

*i would advise you to stay away from windows altogether, but i don't want to look like too much of a linux geek ;) *

Unless you have something that just won't run I would wait for Vista. To get the most out of it's graphics you need a DirectX 10 card (and none have been released yet).
Vista sounds like it will be much improved if you have to stick with Windows as most gamers do. The ability to actually work with a limited account like I do in BSD instead of being forced to run as administrator just to run an application is a huge step forward in security.
The only negative I have seen so far with Vista is the increased DRM but that will probably be bypassed in short order.

don't wait for vista. Its not coming out until the end of the year, and even when it does, its going to take a few years before it takes over XP as the dominant windows system. Stick with XP for now...

nothing is wrong with the new system, just as any new thing is released their are many bugs that need to be found and fixed. but that is why their are service packs, if you get an illegal version than no service pack for you and that is not going to be good, as hackers around the world are going to unite and hack into this system. best bet would be to wait a few months after the release. remember that micro. has the new user authentication security that will not work on downloaded versions.

One of my professors at DeVry once gave some very good advice. He said that when you are buying a new peice of technology (in this case Vista) you are paying to be part of research and development. It is you who is going to find the bugs and report back so they can fix them. If you don't want to have something crashing and going wrong (something for which you paid much money for) then wait until the kinks are out.
