Buying a notebook what would ...... do for me

    My 3 year old vaio has seen better days. Like before i took it out of the box. Anyway in my price range for a new notebook i see things like S-video and RGB ports, tv tuner cards. i mean isn't an RGB wire suppose to connect to a HDTV? What do these things do and what can i do with them and my conventional t.v? What does windows media edition do that my windows professional can't? Im no rook when it comes to computers, but i have spent too much time trying to upgrade mine to see what else is out there. Will someone enlighten me on these topics? Thanks!
