Buying an xbox 360 - soft modding?

Hi, I'm planning on buying the xbox 360 arcade version from futureshop, it has no hard drive, but it does have a memory unit.

My quetion is, can I softmod it? Are there new consoles which don't let you softmod it?
The console has no hard drive, I read a tutorial which requires a hard drive, can I just use a memory unit?

No, You can only soft mod original xboxs, If you want to soft mod an original xbox, then this is your forum. There are no current soft mods for xbox 360's, plus you would get banned from xbox live instantly.
