Hello all. I'm just getting ready to get a DVD burner and I know I want to burn DVD's that are able to play in most DVD players. ((I know it being able to play in the players depends on the disc.)) I want something fast, but it doesn't have to be at light speed, as long as it's dependable I'm happy. It needs to be External since I have a Toshiba Laptop. Price range is anything up to about $150. And if possible it needs to be able to burn .avi and .wmv files. I'm sure you guys will see me here when I can't find out how to burn the DVD's...=] Thanks in advance.
Hi Artreyu Check out the LiteOn - great drives. Here's a few from Newegg - link. I'd go w/ the SHW-160P6SU. It will burn all types formats - just need the software to do it like Nero or ImgBurn etc. I'll move this thread to the correct forum too
Sorry Binkie, As you see I'm new to this. =] If I buy this and it doesn't work can I send you the bill? XD just kidding, that's what receipts are for. Thanks anyways. If anybody has any others I'm not going to buy it today or anything.
lol - if it doesn't then somethings wrong w/ the user LiteOn's are good - I have 3 of them Not to say there can't be lemon here or there Use good media too like Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden or made on Japan Sony, Maxell or Fuji. Burn at half of the rated speed.
Yeah but some users are just perfect and know exactly what they are doing....Did I mention their modest ways? =] Well anybody else...Not that I don't trust you Binkie...
No worries Artreyu While you wait - check out this thread. Since you're getting an external the connection (ide or sata) doesn't apply. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/485860
Well thanks everybody! I'll just keep googeling until I find one that I like or whatever! Well see you all when the hardware messes up because I'm a PERFECT user....And EXTREMELY modest. =]
Find a BenQ DW1650 or DW1655 , if you are into LightScribe, and when you find either, come back and tell us where you found them.
GrandpaBW- Yeah preferably a Container shipload of them new in box ( not Refurbed ) It could happen ? But Then again The Wicked witch could send out the Flying Monkeys to attack us too !!!!!!!- Still if your gonna Dream Dream big that's what I say !!!!!!!!!!!!CIAO!!!!!!!!!!& Merry Christmas!!!!!!!!!!
Oh those?! I got a few, I don't want them though. So I did the only logical thing, Made a laser pointer that can pop balloons! Not really...but if I had an extra I would. http://www.instructables.com/id/Laser-Flashlight-Hack!! If anybody wants it. =]
YES!!! I'll drive the getaway car so you all can stock me some. LOL I take consolation in the fact that I put a DW1650 in the kids PC when they were plentiful and it still only has less than 10 burns on it. I'll steal it next time I need another (have 1640, 1650 in my machine) and give them the new one.
Plese when you drive the get away car drop a couple off at my house I'm down to the last one for burning, using the others for readers and so so's.Of course a couple of Plextor 716"s wouldn't hurt.
@Artreyu You can usually find a 20x LiteOn DVDRW in a black enclosure for around $70 at WalMart; I picked up two for Christmas gifts. @GrandpaBW No more Benq; LiteOn swallowed them up. But their new drives are using a lot of the Benq's technology. I have a LH-20A1P and it works. If you really want pure Benq it will cost at eBay or some people @CDFREAKS have vBay (I think there is one for sale right now). If you find some old stock maybe and let me know! LOL Burn On, Russell PS. To: Santa I would like a Benq DW 1640,DW 1650 and Plextor PX-716,PX-760 all new in box for Christmas.LOL Who am I kidding; I'd be happy with low burns working used! Merry Christmas
Yeah, I knew about the BenQ drives being bought out. The 1640 actually handles DL burning much better than the 1650 and 1655, but I would still take the latter two, if they could be found at a reasonable price.
