I have just purchased a Starview 3 and I would like to say thank you to everyone who has posted advice on here. It took me quite a while before I understood what I was doing and a fair bit of reading but I could never have got it set up on my own.

I just have one strange issue that I cant get to grips with. When I link my Starview to my main TV I get a buzzing through the speakers. The louder I turn the volume the louder the buzzing. I have tried to narrow it down best I can and it seems to be caused when I plug the cable feed into the back of the Starview. The strange thing is when I use all the same leads but use another smaller TV it works fine and I don get the buzzing at all.

I would love to get it sorted however it also bugging the hell out of me as I would like to understand what is causing it.

If anyone can help please I would be very grateful, - Jimbob

Hi mate, thought about that but no luck, I have also tried running audio through my amp but still get the buzzing.

That sounds like some sort of grounding loop, or just maybe your cable ground/screen is broken or wired incorrectly. Have you tried a different wire?

Is everything running out of the same wall socket? Also check that the plug is wired correctly..

(the clue here is this doesn't happen with the small TV which probably isn't grounded at all, the big tv and stereo most likely are or run a "virtual ground" referenced to the neutral power rail)

Earth loops can be a pig to hunt down. If your main tv has an earth wire in the plug try disconnecting it as a test and see if the buzz goes away.

    Hi Varnull

Thanks very much for your help

When you say try a different wire do you mean cable from the outside box that runs into the back of the Starview ????

Everything is runnning from the same wall socket, I thought that might be the issue but when I got home from work tonight I tried plugging the Starview in a different socket while switching everything elce off, no luck though.

I'm sure your right that it is some type on power problem, I will start with the plugs wall plugs (it could be a very long weekend)

Thanks very much for your help, if I get to the bottom of it I will let you know. Thanks again Jimbob

I dont know much about earthing and loops but it gives me something to go on.

Just a thought be I read somewhere that if the cable signal is to strong it can cause issues, I'm on 90% which I think is quite high. I can say the picture is that good and not as clear as my sky box. Just a thought,
