That would depend on where you live, but I doubt it. Typically, you need a signal amplifier after you've split it for more than 2 or 3 TVs. *edit* Well, that pertains to basic cable, at least. Digital cable and whatnot still require a separate receiver box for each television, and if you don't purchase one from your company and pay for that service, you are in breach of contract and breaking a few laws, most likely. Normally, if you get a digital package on a least one television, basic is included on an unlimited amount televisions for free.
If you live in america and have purchased at least basic cable service (something like 60 channels) you can split the signal to as many TVS as you would like. If you have digital cable then you must buy or rent at least one cable box from the service provider, then you can buy as many boxes as you would like off of the internet and split the signal that way!
this might be hard to follow but please try to so i have one cable coming from cablevision, than that was split by the company to give me internet and TV, one of those split wires goes into the cable box and another one come out and goes into my tv. can i split the cable that comes out of the box and have that go to my PC without breaking any laws(my parents are squares lol) and getting all the channels or would i still need another box sry if that was already answered
If you take it from the box to your computer, you would only be able to watch whatever is on the main tv. If you want to watch separate programming, you need to split the line before it goes it goes to the cable box on the television. And if you do that, I would recommend a signal amplifier, as you will start getting problems if you split the original signal too much. If you split the cable line before the cable box, you will only get basic service on the computer. You would have to get another box and keep that with the PC to get all the digital channels.
It also depends on what type of tuner you have in your PC. Some PCs have digital tuners. Splitting the cable in your house in anyway would not break any laws. What type of tuner do you have in your PC?
um i have a shitty tuner here is a link and if you are wondering about recording it can http://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx?Item=N82E16815260007
because it is a standard tuner... if you were to take the cable directly into your tv you would only be able to get the 70 or so channels. With the cable box you get the extra 300+
Thanks for the support ddp... It is sort of Ironic that I am posting in this thread right now because I have comcast out out my house fixing my TV and Phone... LOL...
yes... because you have 1 set top box already. It would be illegal to buy a box and use it if you didn't already rent or buy a box from your cable provider. ~Domreis
