can anyone help me iv got a star view and was wondering if i can use it with digital cable instead of ntl's aerial as i am worried they will know what im watching if that possible?? and if there is any other way of watching it without using ntl? please help. thanks
I have the basic package from N*L and a Starv*ew and they wont know your watching it You need a basic cable package in order to use it
iv got no ntl package now i canceled it a while ago but am using there aerial that goes into there box in the star view, was wondering if i could use a digital aerial or dish or high gain multi band aerial instead of using ntl's one to get the channels im in south uk if thats any help. thanks
In Celtic's absence I can tell you that this will not work. You need a basic true cable digital package from a provider.
and what would that mean like with telew@t or s'y and what if i had a basic satelite dish? and would they not think its odd me having a basic package and not watching any channels?
It wont work with S*y or any form of satellite dish set up, as it is a cable box, which only works with DVB-C networks because of its tuner. If you get a basic package from a provider with direct cable into your house you will then be able to use the Starview to view "all" channels. How are they to know what you view as you can just keep their box in one room and use the Starview in the main room.
i see can i have them both on same tv together and will telewest do? and why is my ntl cable working when i canceled it weeks ago? thanks for your time
Yes you can have both of them working together and telepest will do. Regarding your live although cancelled connection you said you are receiving this through an aerial does this mean you have an aerial on the roof or is this a direct cable feed into your house. Sorry for the confusion when someone mentions aerial to mean I think of a roof mounted aerial.
its the cable that goes into the ntl box their cable thats the one i am using, i tried it without that with the aerial from roof and no good also tried it in friends with digital aerial also no good but i heard u can use some kind of aerial high powered one and it works but wanted to make sure. also are they bringing out a box that works on digital aerials? it works on cable in ireland but not in uk
I have to leave soon so if you have any more queries one of the other guys/gals will help you out. Firstly you say you have a live cable connection, (even though you cancelled it), how many channels can you receive on it. If this cable is coming directly from the road and it is live we may be able to get the Starview to work. Secondly you will not get the Starview to work from an aerial or satellite dish as I stated earlier. The high powered antennae/dish you are talking about can be used for satellite TV reception with a DVB-T type decoder. In reference to your quote it works on cable in Ireland but not the UK. The Starview works on cable in both the UK and Ireland. I think you are referring to the MMDS system, (microwave system), in Ireland where you require a DVB-T box to achieve this. There are boxes out there that you can use on terrestrial type systems, e.g Dreambox with DVB-T tuner, you still need to have a live feed at all times no matter what box you have.
my ntl cable comes from the ground thats what i meant by aerial, my starview works but was just wondering why if i cancelled my ntl i get itv1 bbc1+2,3,4, channel 4, channel 5 and attheraces on the cancelled ntl box there free anyway, also wanted to know if it would work with an aerial and u told me it wouldnt. would a dreamcast work of an aerial or sattelite dish? thanks for your time, sorry i take so long to reply i do be at work a lot lately and just use com when we not busy.
