    Hi,

My friend moved into a new house and wants to cable to multiple rooms so that he can use a few starview boxes. The coaxal cables are already pre-wired in the wall cavities to the roof space (new cables). He bought an 8-way cable splitter/booster to do this but it doesn't work.

The ntl input goes straight to the roof space where the 8-way booster is installed. He connected a few cables that go straight down to the ground floor but no joy in picking up any signal.

Can anyone please help us out and suggest why this wouldn't work. If I connect directly to the ntl the signal streght it v.good.

    Thanks!

are you sure he has a live feed from the provider ?? do they get any channels when you plug the cable direct into the tv ??

are you in an area that has been changed over to Nagra 3 if so you wont get any channels on your box

is it ntbell cable or mmds. if the input is coming from the roof I can only assume its ntl mmds. Firstly I'm puzzled as NTL MMDS and cable are already gone to N3 so how does your friend expect to receive unscrambled channels off this feed. But that aside, if it is an MMDS ariel feed what you do is put the coax from the ariel into a downconverter and then connect the downconverter as your primary connection into your multiplexor. Then at least you will get signal strength if not very many channels.

It's nthell cable, and I dont' think Northern Ireland has been hit with N3. The live feed is coming in on the ground floor, then cabled to the roof.

so have you tested by connecting receeiver to input that goes into the multiplexor. If you get signal at this point then you can be pretty certain that the gain on the multiplexor is not enough to support multiple inputs. Would then suggest you get new multiplexor with higher gain value and test again

yes, without multiplexor the signal is good. I'll try to get the spec of the multiplexor. Thanks for your help!
