    Hi,
I'm a nubie to sound editing programs & am using Vista.

I want to use Cakewalk Home studio to record and edit music from live & virtual instruments. However, after the install, it wants a midi output device to playback.

Do I have to use a keyboard midi or can I just output thru my speakers and use a midi application?

    Thanks!

you should be able to use a soft synth in cakewalk to get sound on through your speakers

I don't mean to be dumb but how do you do that? How can I get a midi driver installed without having the attached hardware and have Vista recognize it?
