I'm going to be going to University in the fall. I'm wondering if I should buy a laptop or a desktop. I just wanted to hear what everyone thinks about it. In a class setting do you really need to be typing notes. Can't you just write them like you did for the past 12 years. Plus the clicking of the keyboard is annoying in a class setting. Thanks for any input. The more the better!
I just got a laptop and I'm in high school. It has it's adavantages over the pc especialy if your getting desktop replacement. Unless you don't want to do gaming and can't spend a lot of money then get a desktop.
No contest: Laptop. Trust me, my university has wireless internet in every classroom. You WILL be bored (eventually) during class. The internet will be there to entertain you if necessary...
i say both; for the price of a good laptop, you can get an awesome desktop and a mediocre laptop w/ wireless 'net. carry the laptop around, sync it with your desktop, have the best of both worlds. why not, eh? lol.
Desktop no contest,the laptops are alright for carrying around and maybe typing up stuff but a desktop is easier to use for printing,sending fax or etc....It just over powers a laptop,you can print with a laptop but it sucks.I get bored in a class even if internet is available hahaha lol,must be the tone from the professors.They seem to have that low boredom like the guy off the dry eyes visine commercials speech going for them everytime I listen to them.I only met a couple professors that I could actually honestly listen to,but they are pretty young and easier to understand.The other advantage of a Desktop over a laptop is the price comparison,believe me you will be spending enough money for the classes and books already.When you said typing notes instead of writing down notes,it hasn't changed to be honest.You can write down notes if you want to,a laptop isn't requried.I am still writing down my notes instead of typing it out.The only time I type is when I type out my final papers that I will turn into a class,it differs for each class,for instance any math class they will have you writing down notes for the whole class period.Any science class will make you write down notes also,but English/Lit will make you write like crazy and involves alot of typing for your finished product.History is mainly writing notes also,but I guess if you wanted to you could type notes.My college doesn't really allow us to use tape recorders or stuff like that.It is full on writing till your hands can't stand it anymore hahaha lol,doh when will the technology finally reach my college.
that guy was Ben Stein, L-Burna. lol, he has the most monotonous voice! i used to talk just like that <.< >.> you forgot to mention how much easier a desktop can be to repair/maintain than a laptop, as well as upgrade on the cheaper side.
Yeah,but every college has computers for the students now a days.Just write down notes I know it sucks,but writing down notes isn't really that bad.I guess if you want to you could use a laptop,it doesn't hurt to have one but they are on the expensive side.I like Auslander's opinion get both if you can afford it,but it depends on how much you can spend.
My daughter has a MS degree in computer science, programming and a secondary in math. I bought her a laptop when she started college thinking she will be taking it to classes. It sat in her room at college most of the time because she didn't want it damaged. But the college she went to had PCs in almost every class room. Now her company gave her a new one to use plus one of those cell phones with the key board on it so she can monitor the company network from anywhere. I don't think I could find out how to place a call on that phone. I'm getting too old for some of this stuff. Jerry
nownthen, i suppose your decision really only depends on the facilities offered by your school. if you are still undecided, you can toss up a few of the tech-type things your school offers and maybe we can help you reach a conclusion
I've been looking at the University site the wireless network doesn't seem to cover the entire campus. Just selected buildings and classrooms. Residence is wired.
but he doesn't have wireless capability everywhere he can carry a compie. that's the biggest advantage a laptop has over a desktop. without that, you might as well save the cash and get a desktop.
