I shall soon buy the Qood chip, but before i do, i already know that it is better then the viper so no need to try to convince me. anywayz, i have some questions and need some opinions about the Qoob from people who have it or know alot about it.

firstly after viewing the Qood site i noticed this:

Q: [ALL] I downloaded the bios from qoobchip.com but I cant play backups. Why?
A: Since there is no way for the chip to determine whether a backup is legitimate or not we have not added this feature to our bios releases.

    >>> what is this meant to mean???

    .:2nd:.

Q: [PRO] Why do I have to use the Action Replay once to enable the cheat code system?
A: Cheat codes are commonly published in a format used by Action Replay. We felt that making a cheat engine that uses these codes would be the same as copying the Action Replay. We understand that the makers of Action Replay spent a lot of time and money on developing their product, and also publishing cheats for it. That is why the bios requires an original Action Replay once.

    >>>>> due to it being able to read homemade disks, can someone just dl action reply, rip it and it will enalbe cheats. Am i right or wrong.

Please use this space to also tell me about any other factors that i should consider before buying. What is the best place to buy?

Hi boki...the truth is that the qoob is a more sofisticated mod than the viper one...it allow you to upload more features like third party tools/programs and it seems it has a good development team...yep it is an action replay based mod chip...which is the matter?
The infomrations you've found on the qoobchip.com site are not complete...the qoob team has posted only a little part of the capabilities of their effort...
Here you are the 1.3 bios release features...they are not cumulative...so they are only the last added:
    - Cheats support added (ActionReplay required once)
    - Cheats: Current Game fuzzy autodetection
    - Configuration Menu added
    - Settings can be stored in flash
    - DRE fix / swap support can be disabled
    - Time fixed
    - Background can be changed, texts can be disabled (you can now use your own
images or company logo etc. as background image for the qoob bios)
    - In Game Reset (IGR)
    - Video mode force (for games)
    - Video mode configurable (for menu)
    - Progressive support (even for PAL)
    - Flash tool doesn't store full path anymore
I am using the qoop pro and I ve to say it is not 100% full compatible with all the backups but the development team is working hard...it has been released the 1.3a bios version to solve some issues with the last games...and it seems to be the best bios I ve tried till now...
Personally I was picking up a ViperGC but after have seen what qoob could offer to me have decided to take the last one...

the bios on their site and the bios that ships with the chip don't support backups so don't bother with those. They probably do this to protect themselves from being sued. Do a google search for qoob bios 1.3c, which is the latest version and supports backups and many more features. Not sure how this chip compares to the viper but so far my qoob works like a charm. Just make sure you use ritek dvd-r media.

Torra I will say that I use TDK DVD+R that work fine. It all depends on your Cube laser and Chip installed . Just my 2cents....B)

    Bad pirate!

You shouldn't be downloading iso's unless you own the game, and even then you should be backing it up yourself.

Assuming you own the game, if it's hanging on the Nintendo screen you probably have to adjust the pot or rip and burn the game again. That copy of Animal Crossing might just be a bad rip, and could be why it isn't playing. If that isn't the only game having problems, you probably have to adjust the pot.

As for the MP3 player, when you're selecting the file to be flashed (mp3player.dol) just changed the file type on the drop down menu to .DOL, and then select the file from it's location. Flash it to an empty space, and you're ready to go.

    Alright then.

I forgot to mention backups won't boot right if you use the bios already on the chip. You have to flash a new one such as 1.3c for it to boot properly.

If the ISO is small in size, you probably need to run FSTFIX before you can burn it properly...

Get the Qoob pro modchip! It is hands down the best modchip for the GC, and has more features as well as being the easiest to use of them all. I've had my q00b pro for about a month now and haved made perfect copies of about 75 GC games; they all run flawless. I am using the current 1.3c bios which can be downloaded from modthatcube(google it). The chip also has a crap load of memory on it. I have an mp3 player, mpeg player, gcom 1.0 game ripper, gcos 1.4 bios, and a ton of bios backgrounds. Each time I load my GC a different image pops up in the background. The possibilities are endless! Flashing the chip is easy, all you do is connect the usb cable to it and use their flashing program. No dos crap. And yes their are cheat functions... who knows what will come in the next version....
When you get the chip though, make sure to get ritek g04 mini-dvds. Most other media has disc reading errors with the cube and games freeze. The ritek g04 media uses a special recording die that makes it easy for the cube to read. Also I strongly suggest getting a digital multimeter and changing your cubes laser POT value to 210. Mine was originally at 480, and it can't read copies well becuase the laser isn't the right size. Lowering the cube laser to 210 is just perfect for the media. Again all this info can be found on the modthatcube site. I think I might make a short tutorial for people just getting into cube modding...

My GC wouldn't even read Paper Mario with the pot set in the 170-210 range. I had to go with 150 for it to work properly.

I've recently modded a friend's GC with the qoob sx, and this week i've modded mine with qoob pro. I have only one thing to say: BUY IT. Qoob is definitively the best gc chip around. In both the gc i've installed qoob are running with 1.3c bios, and i can say that they are all running flawlesly. ALL my backups works just PERFECT. I have just one thing to say: you will probably need to raise the laser power by adjusting the pot to a value likely around 170~250 Ohm. In my case, both GC i've modded are with resistance around 190~210 Ohm. (Remember: **DECREASING the Ohm value in the pot RAISES the laser power**) And, like i've just said, both works perfectly. My advice is:
1 - Make the installation with care, with nice solder points, not too much solder, take care to do not overheat your GC's motherboard by holding the soldering iron on it for more than 10 seconds per try on each solder point. If you can, use a liquid that here in Brazil is known as "soldering flux". It helps a lot on doing a clean solder point. Be sure that the wires are firmly solded and are not touching parts that they should not touch. Take special care with point "F", as it can end touching the processors' heat sink if it is not good placed. Put the chip int the place that the qoob chip team recommends putting it.

2 - You will probably need to adjust your GC's pot in order to have a nice working mod. Follow my directions above. This advice in adjusting your pot is largelly used by the people in Cube's scene, i really believe that you can do it without the risk of killing your laser too soon. Raise the laser power as little as you gamecube seems to need to run dvd-r without making too much effort. Also be sure to don't use the cheapest and worst media available (i'm sure you can find good enough media for nice prices). Remeber that a full size GC disc image only take about 10 minutes to burn at 2x, so try to record at slowest speed possible, specially if you're using cheaper media (if you end esperiencing problems, you can try to disable the buffer underun option of your burning software - i use nero). In adition, chep if your GC's lens are clean.

Well, i think that if you take these little care (my directions are few, they just look as they are much because they are well-explained) you will manage to be as lucklly as me running games on your GC. I've noticed that the most people having problems with modchips have not followed one or some of the dirrections stated in the installation guide they used. A good installation means a good working mod.

And finally, don't give any attention to these people that seem to enter forums just to disturb people trying to talk serious. I'm sure that if you pay attention, you'll find the comment that you can follow, and find the comments that aren't even worst aswering or commenting. Tanxs for the time reading my post, a really hope it helps anyone trying to make a fine mod in they GC.

Qoob is THE mod, if you make a good installation, you'll soon be a nother happy qoob user.

Well, sorry for my broken english, hope that things i wrote help. See ya

    Samuel
