Team Ninja chief Tomonobu Itagaki has expressed concerns over the lack of storage space on the Xbox 360's DVD media.

Speaking to Japanese magazine, Famitsu, Itagaki has expressed concerns over the limited capacity DVD offers in the era of High Definition. He feels developers will struggle to fit High Definition pre-rendered sequences onto the 9GB format, being particularly problematic for Japanese developers who prefer to use pre-rendered over real time cut scenes.

"The screen resolution for Xbox 360 games will be in high definition, so the pre-rendered movies are going to be pretty large," said Itagaki. "If we encoded the Dead or Alive 4 trailer from E3 in high definition in a quality acceptable to us, it will easily be about 2GB." This would leave around 7BG for game data, but for games relying on pre-rendered scenes to tell and develop the story, multiple DVDs may be required. Itagaki added how shocked he and his team were when they were told the Xbox 360 would use DVDs.

"With DOA4, we'll be using the disc's capacity to its full extent. We started development on DOA4 pretty early, and we didn't know what disc format the Xbox 360 was going to adopt. So when we learned about it, we were really knocked out."

This is a realistic concern to have as HD video requires large amounts of disc space that the DVD format does not have. Sony, on the other hand, are to use the much larger capacity Blu-Ray discs, so PlayStation 3 developers should not face such problems.

Lol you caught me, i didnt read the article my internet has been running real bad lately and just went off what i thought the quote meant. My bad, am reading it now.

EDIT: Ok read the article, does sound logical but last I heard Blue Dragon was still 3 DVD-DLs I doubt they would sell it like that if they could utilize the coding enough to fit it on 1-2 discs, it costs them alot more in production costs.

Also anyone noticing Afterdawns tags arent working properly?(not just quote but url and stuff)

 

I think that the Blu-Ray Feature should be implemented into like psp or something because it's sonys product but then again the drive it would need would be bigger.

 

I think that if sony was going to do something along those lines they should have put a DVD drive! If they where to do somethind like that then th thing would cost about $1000

real cost of PS3 with its current questionable set of parts 900 sale price 599.

a modified PSP with a micro sized BR payer would be 900-1500,it being micro sized and all ,well not micro but slim style like notebook/laptops have.

the PSP is already big enough with a slide out drive design it could do DVDs instead of sonys sad attempt at another Mini disc.

 

its not 900, its 800 on the 500 and 850 on the 600.

anyway the PS3 is doing ok despite its price,sure the PS3 beat the 360 in "sales" and the WII is knocking them both flat,and will into 08.

Look at eBay yo can find PS3s for retail price the PS3 is no longer a "hot" item.

 

here is a quote from an interview with Hideo Kojima on Blu-ray. he is highly respected in the business and not some analysis or nut shooting their mouth off.

so for those with little to no credentials in the business who feel that Blu-ray is crap or even just a ploy by sony, say what you please. i however will take insight from those in the business, and there aren't too many better than Hideo Kojima.

true, probably in part because xmas is over and supply has certainly picked up. i've seen twice now, a local bestbuy had 2 or 3 ps3s available. during the holiday season when i went to ebay's site the most popular electronic was the PS3...

well im not saying your wrong, but there is still another BIG factor to think about when comparing sales between these consoles. that is of course the fact that the ps3 still has not released in europe. we are not talking about a country here, but an entire REGION. ps3 has already sold well over a million units so add another region and im sure the numbers may be a bit closer.

i think part of the wii's success was the timing of their release (xmas) and their supply. im sure most would agree that if sony would have been able to put out 3 million units that all 3 million would have sold. it'll be interesting to see how well the wii sells into 07 along with the ps3. i don't really know too much on the wii or its upcoming games, so i really can't say for sure. what i do know is heavenly sword, motorstorm, warhawk, liar, DMC??, MGS??, and then there is assassin's creed, madden, unrealtourn2007, GTA which are EXPECTED to release within the year. what a time it will be to own a ps3...

I look at 360 witch to me is a Frankenstein of parts (bad cpu/mobo/cooling,limited HD for 100 more,locked in HD ) its jsut....blah

the PS3 is a monster of a different breed but a monster non the less,BR is ok not great but ok,the HDD is god non ps1/2 mem card support out of box bad needs update out of box to fix PSX/PS2 playback and a few other small things that make it annoying the main thing about the PS3 tho is sonys arrogance and their constant lieing and the price just makes me screw sony for the next couple of years.

 

the wii has such a higher production rate. these numbers mean nothing. only the number after 3-4 years really show anything. plus why do sales mean so much? it doesnt mean any console is less better than the other, or one is more wanted, it just means one is easier to get for more people.

 

I bet there is truth to that Zephyr if so then Microsoft is really scared of Sony.Because they have lied so much since E3 this year & last year.They said that there was no need for games to be boosted to 1080i or 1080p guess what that changed...They said there was no need for a Hi-Def player on a game system guess what there a HD-DVD add-on.Now this Zephyr.

 

So that means that a Gamecube is better then a ps2?

 

I think what he is trying to say is that Nintendo did a very good job of meeting Demand.With it being a new system and also being released close to the Holidays that why it sold so good.But i would like to see its numbers after the Holidays then when Sony start releaseing killer games Wii sales not going to have that much steam.

I forgot *L* half the time the PS2 and GC look the same to me 0-o I recall hairs in star fox adventure that set it apart from the PS2,if the GC is more powerful they didn't show it alot *L*

 

But you do know it is more powerfull right it did really show in Resident Evil 4 the GCN version looked better thne the ps2 one.
