Hello everyone I am in the market for a digital camera. Now I have never bought one so I have no clue on what features I really want on it. Is GE a good brand for digital cameras? Why I am asking is I saw one on hsn the other day and it was a 10MP looked really nice but im not too sure if its great!? If GE is not a good brand for a camera what would be?? also should i be looking at say like the zoom aswell?? the one i saw had a 3x optical and a 4.5 digital zoom is that good? if anyone has bought this GE camera could u send me what you think of it? otherwise everyone else could you give me some advice on what i should get? im looking to spend around 200 any info would be great thanx

I have owned two Kodak camera and absolutely love both of them. My first was a 3x optical zoom 5mp that we bought 4 years ago or so. Took the best pics of any 5mp camera I have ever seen. I now own the Kodak z812 IS and love it also. It is between $250-$275 but pushing you budget is well worth it. It has 12x zoom, plenty of nice features and is very quick between pictures. Many of the nicer point and shoot cameras take along time from when you push the shutter button and when it takes the picture so you ALWAY miss the shot. With this camera you push the button and it takes the pic almost instantly. I haev seen a good number of cameras looking at my two purchases and for me the Z812 IS was the way the way to go.

Some reasons for Kodak are most people agree they are easiest to use of all cameras due to there simple set up. Most things you will ever charge how it takes pictures only take one button to push as apposed to many other cameras you have to be a semi pro photographer to change many of the settings. My ex-wife lover to hear this because she like to use the cameras and wasn't very competent in figuring out electronics.

Finally AFTER MEGAPIXLE ZOOM IS THE MOST IMPORTANT INFO TO ME!! I loved my original camera and like I said it took AWESOME pictures but the problem was with only 3x zoom you miss so many shots at kids games, days at the park, and anywhere and everywhere. Zoom was the main reason for updating from our old camera and I would look for no less than 8-10 and if you can find more go with it.

I wouldn't buy a camera from GE ever....

I place GE up there with poloroid digital cameras great untill you upgrade your operating system.

There are great camera setups out there right now from..

    KODAK

    SAMSUNG

    NIkON

One's i would recommend not buying.

    1. Poloroid every time they change a operating system you have to purchase a new camera from them they don't update drivers.

    2. Minolta when your lense stops working and you find out it will cost you 900.00 to get it fix you will understand why i dislike minolta.

And once you get your camera.

Go out and purchase a light meter every time i have seen someone trust there lightmeter in there camera the worst shots come out of it.

I wouldn't buy a GE because I have never heard anyone reccomend one so to me that means they aren't popular for a reason. Poloroid also doesn't seem to make anything special when it comes to digital cameras.

I understand wanting to save money but remember this is something you want pictures of you kids or games or whatever is special or important to you. So spending a few extra dollars will be well worth it so you mom doesn't look like you aunt and your aunt turns out looking like your dog! Obvious a slight exaggeration but you get the point.

Buy GE if your getting a dishwasher, not a camera. Buy Nikon!

From what I have seen Nikon makes very nice cameras but they seem very complicated. I myself didn't have much problems looking at them in the stores but I wouldn't want to put one in my ex-wife's hands!

for first time buyers.... buy a good point and shoot camera. Things to think about is Mega Pixels and Zoom. Why... the more mega pixels you have the better you can blow up your picture or crop out your picture to capture what you want! and if you zoom.... the camera is only as good as your mega pixels allow it to be.

Without getting complicated... there usually are 2 zooms in a point and shoot camera. One is the optical zoom where the camera will go the distance that the lens allows it to go.... then there is the camera zoom (like 2x, 4x).... this zoom feature will extend the length of the lens and expand the zoom feature to the computerized camera settings. So mega pixels come into play here. If you expand the zoom feature to the 2x then you rely on the camera to zoom in to that length... but if your mega pixels are low then you will get a grainy shot and not crisp or clear! I hope I explained this feature in layman terms.

rule here is buy the camera that is the simplest to use for first timers.... and get as much mega pixels as your wallet can stand. Good brands to buy for such type cameras are Sony, Canon, Nikon, Casio, Kodak, Panasonic...... these are name brand cameras in the POINT AND SHOOT catagory...... if you want DSLR.... there are only 2 ways to go.... Canon or Nikon.... my opinion!
