Can a 40x CDRW drive write to a 32x CD-R?

I've never used a CDRW drive, but plan to get one in a few weeks. I've been looking around to find out the best deals on blank discs, and have found that there are very few 40x discs sold. If I buy slower speed discs, like 24x or 32x, can my 40x/12x/48x drive use them? How about with CDRW's?

Sorry if this a dumb question answered in all sorts of faqs, but I haven't found those faqs, if they exist. Are there any good general CD burning faqs out there?

    Thanks a lot!!

YES, i'm am doing the exact same thing, picked up a 40x burner, and i use 32x cd-rs. you just have to make sure that you set the proper burning speed with your burning software, or your gonna get some coasters
