i am using an AOPEN EHW-4859U cd writer. while i was going through a number of my cd's that have no label on them, in order to archivate them, i happened to enter a disc that i put the manufacturer update-information for my dvd player on (i downloaded and put it on disc using a different writer, in order to switch my dvd player to codefree). ever since i put that cd in, i was unable to create disks with the cd writer. using nero 5.0 i am receiving the error message 'mechanism control task error'. clone cd reports a 'hardware error' - though the writer still reads disks.

can that be due to the dvd update-cd i inserted to the writer? any help appreciated.
    thanks, chub

Absolutely NO. When you burn, are you burning "on the fly" (DVD-Rom 2 CDRW)

nope - i was only burning mp3 to audio and had not copied a cd with that burner since i bought it.

in the meantime i got and connected another aopen cd writer (EHW 5224U) to my system and have no probs writing with it. but still i'd like the other burner to work =)

what does 'mechanism control task error' indicate? seems like a hardware bug to me. any idea how i can fix that?

    thanks a lot,
