Hello, I've a 3 3/4 hour MKV file (video=mpeg4/avc, audio=ac3) I have two requirements. I'd like to encode it over two DVD's and if possible, use the audio as-is (no-reencode). I can think of a way to do it manually. I would split the MKV into two using MKV Merge GUI. Then encode the video for each separately, perhaps in Tmpgenc (to create the m2v). I'd extract the ac3 from the split MKV's using MKV Extract GUI, then feed this audio and the M2v into DVDFLick to author each DVD. It's a lot of manual steps. Can any of the all-in-one programs meet my requirements?
Thanks for the info. The guide uses avi2dvd, not one of the progs I looked at. The main issue I had was that the source, being over 4 hours, is too long to make a decent DVD. SO I was left with the choice of manually splitting the MKV to two manageable pieces, or researching to see if one of the all-in-one products could handle some sort of source range selection. (since they are all-in-one I assumed they could handle it. But I'm finding, these special cases are not handled well, if at all) For now, I split the file with MKV merge GUI and I'm using a simple avisynth script, directshowsource and resize to frame serve to Tmpgenc - which worked fine once I installed the Haali splitter.
AVI DeMux should be able to extract the audio and re-encode the AVC to MPEG2 video. Then you can use GUI for DVD Author (MuxMan)to author.
