I will try to keep this short. Any help would be so apperciated you guys are my last hope. Every time I try to install windows xp the computer reboots and just hangs in a blue screen or I get a fatal error message. I have tried everything and can't get it to work. Here are the specs: Asus p4s800d-x mobo 3.06 celeron D (478 pin) 200 gb SATA HDD 256MB video card tower with 450 watt power supply Benq DVD burner I thought the bios may need to be updated for that processor but I couldn't update it so I put in my old p4 1.6 and I have the exact same problem. I think the motherboard is bad. This is my 5th build the first four went perfect but this has been a nightmare. Thanks for any help.
What kind of 450w PSU? When motherboards go, they usually go pretty quick leaving nothing to the imagination...and nothing to show. It's not all that often that they do, unless handled incorrectly. Now, for the other components, they are more fragile. A bad stick of ram, poorly seated vid card, or a generic power supply. Only way to make sure, would be to replace each part one by one. Unless you get yourself one of these: (old example) http://www.uxd.com/phdpci.shtml
The 450 watt power supply came with the tower. The red light on the mobo comes on that indicates something about RAM. I am using some cheap ram I got online for 35 bucks. I have tested the Video card in another machine and it works. Thanks.
Ok I have more information. I tried swapping the SATA hard drive into an old computer set up running an ASUS motherboard and an AMD 1900. I get the same error. Then (remember these are all different parts except for the SATA HDD - (I just needed something to get me by until I could fix my new set up) I tried 2 different IDE HDD's and get the same error?????? I mean is that SATA HDD corrupting the motherboards??? (can that even happen??) I am so confused now I may shoot myself. I am still a novice at building. I have never ran into anything like this. Any help my keep me from offing myself. Thanks.
