Hello everyone this problem is driving me crazy... I have a laptop and I am trying to burn just data off the hard drive onto a DVD+R and every time I get errors, the weird thing is I can burn CD's no problem and DVD Rewriteables.

The following things I have tried-
-There is no available firmware or driver upgrade for my drive.
-It is definitly a DVD+R not - (Even tried a - disk to check)
-Tried Various brands of DVD+R some expensive some cheap.
    -Defragmented.. scandisked... etc... etc..
-Tired using various software, nero, Easy Media centre..
-Tried burining at the slowest speed it goes.
-Tried many small files or 3 big ones... haven't directly tried to copy a DVD to DVD.
-Tried begging... tempting it with some apple crumble, grounding it for 2 weeks-- No TV for YOU!

    All unsuccessfully.

The results are that some files are ok and some are corrupt (about 50%)With Easy media centre it says 'Media error'.
If its hardware... then its weird rewritables & CDs work but DVD+r's don't... oh the dvd brand is "qsi dvdrw sdw-041"

Isn't this weird?... hope someone can help... because otherwise I may have to adopt it out.

Well there is no difference between DVD+R's and DVD+RW's other than one is write once and the other is write many times. I would suggest trying a different DVD+R brand type. This might be a dumb question but are you sure you have a +R drive and not a -R drive?

try going on the burner's manufacturer's site and downloading the latest firmware (if there is any) and flashing your drive with that. Make sure you get the firmware for your specific drive though, a different drive's firmware will not work.

Yep.. yep... there is no firmware up grade.. and its definitly not DVD-R I tried that.
I have tried 3 different brands so far... how many brands to I have to try?.. this is getting expensive!

You know I really though tempting it with apple crumble would work too.

OK Seems the drive is just REALLY fussy when it comes to brands of Disks, the only ones I can get to work are Sony or Verbatium.
    Can't use
