this is a basic question which i cannot seem to get sonic / roxio to answer. their sales literature says network computers can be backed up - but i'm not sure what that means. i need to know if i can back up computer A to a drive on computer B, both comps being on the same network. TIA xx
why would ye use sonic/roxio on backing up your computer...when Acronis True Image and norton ghost does it 1000% better, or better yet,get nero..believe me its better then roxio 8 or 9.. i hope 9 is not as bad as 8 was.. Trusted Reviews blasts Roxio 8 'package is fatally flawed' Posted by Dan Bell on 13 May 2006 - 15:29 - Source: Trusted Reviews This is odd. The last version of this recording software, Roxio 7, was a very good product and has been given glowing reviews just about everywhere you can look. So, now we have have Roxio 8, certainly, it ought to be even better than ever, with maybe just a kink or two, right? Well, this gentleman at Trusted Reviews says, that even though the software recording suite is packed with features, it's riddled with bugs! Unfortunately, though packed with features, this package is fatally flawed. The central core, for instance, is littered with irritating problems and bugs. It doesn’t seem able to handle TIFF images correctly – the thumbnails come out scrambled. It’s one hell of a resource hog. Just flicking between the different views for standard PC folders, media organiser and custom albums can take a few seconds, and there’s a small delay when carrying out even simple tasks such as expanding folders in the tree view. And sometimes the file dialog just refuses to work. The problems don’t end there. Though easy to use, My DVD Express is about as flaky as a box of All Bran and falls over at a moment’s notice, especially when attempting to preview your carefully crafted DVD movie and slide show compilations. And the rest of the suite is similarly afflicted, with applications regularly throwing error messages, freezing up, shutting down and generally causing frustration and disruption. Well, don't candy coat it, tell us how you feel! This is very odd indeed and what is even more surprising, is that the issues could not be worked out prior to the release of this review. One has to wonder what is going on. In the meantime, we should watch to see if any updates come along to address the issues mentioned or if other review sites concur with this one. Nero doesn't ghost over the network -ireland- To ghost over the network you will have to map a network drive to ghost from the guest computer to the host. Im still getting to know how to ghost over the network so give me some more time to be a little more help. I personally use Acronis to make ghost images nightly, but from each computer themselves and not networked...yet.
geestar20 i did not meam nero for networking,i ment that nero is better then roxio then roxio 8 or 9.............
ah, BTW...Im totally lying about NERO making a backup of a networked computer. I just made a ghost image of some files on a networked computer and I deleted them on the guest PC, then did a restore on the host PC and they came back on the guest computer.
Interesting. I have had no problems with Media Creator 8 and I also have Nero 7 Ultra Edition. I tried using Nero to back up but . . . I can't remember the reason I quit using it - either it was too slow or something similar. I have used Acronis and I use Ghost as well. Right now I back up onto a network computer using the Windows XP backup utility and the back up goes to a networked Linux box. The Ghost and Media Creator back ups go to external drives on the computer being backed up. Yes, this is a lot of backing up. But I had several crashes a few years ago and all my back ups failed to restore so . . . I am wary.
