You will love it, as far as IC 8, you don't need it, you have plenty. I have a disease, softwareitis, As of now, no cure, maybe one day.....
Thats more socially accepted than toyitis. At least you have a social disease. I am considered slightly antisocial or childish. Did ya catch that social thing Verne?
I've got too large movies (movie itself 8GB) and I'd rather split to 2 DVD than lose quality with aggressive compression. Is DVDCopy 2 my best choice?
If you split the movie, it won't matter. 8g divided by 2 = 4g, no compression at all! Rebuider/CCE really comes thru in this kind of situation. Still IC 8 and DVDCopy 2 have a really good pic at 50% compression, you might want to burn one with a RW, if you don't like it, no big deal. You might be surprised. I have taken long movies with a lot of extras and made it a 2 disc set. Example, the new Peter Pan- I really liked the menu set up for the extras, so I disabled all the extras and burnt the movie, then diabled the movie and burnt all the extras. i did this in Nero' recode. I put it in a 2-disc case and made a cover in nero's DVD cover app. I then customized the cover, added special collector's edition- 2 disc set and voila- a perfect 2 disc set copy. I like my backups to look as good as the original, so I go thru the added trouble and expense of cases and covers with photo paper and a printer. I get the cases on ebay for about 4.00-7.00/100 plus shipping. That's for double or single. Wal Mart has Kodak photo paper(soft gloss) for 15.00 per 50 pack. Ritek G04's at meritline for .52ea./100 with free shipping. Total, less than 2.00 for a perfect backup! _ _X_X_X_X_X_[small] [bold]GO VOLS![/bold]..Dell Media4600, XP,Pentium 4 @2.80GHz/800Mz,512MB,280HDw/8MB,17" flat panel,AIO-A920,8xDVD-ROM,integrated 5.1 audio, HPdc4000,PlextorPX-708UF,LiteOn SOHS 832S dual layer[/small]
You can go even farther. Use gloss photo labels. Scan the disc and make a photo copy on the label and paste that on there. The disc even looks like the original. I've got some pretty old and as long as you don't abuse them, the labels stay on great. I use Fellowes. Don't know if anybody would pay the bucks for it, but DVD X Copy Platinum is the easiest program I ever used to split to two discs. I archived a disc on two for no compression.
Big O. Thanks to your posts sometime way back, I have been using DVD Decrypter and Nero Recode 2 (to re-author). It works fantastic, and the quality is great! Bigo, I know how to copy and put on one disc the title and on another disc the extras (Shrink will do the job easily). However, how do I split a movie (8GB long) in two, where the movie itself is 7.9GB. Hopefully it can be done without having to resort to heavy duty prog like Rebuider/CCE.
yes, you can. This is done under remake a dvd in recode. It would take a while to write down this method. Do this, go to the nero homepage and download the nero manuel for recode. It is in a zip file so you will need a prog to handle the file. Most PC's come with one(i think lol), I like winrar, it has a trial period. You can also view it at the site if you wish and just copy this section. What I did was to download all nero manuels and put them in a zip file in a folder on my desktop, that way, they are handy whenever I need them. Anyway, follow the method in the manuel, use RW's and if you hit a snag, holler, and I'll help you through it. The manuel has pics and is easy to follow. There is so much stuff in nero 6, I haven't used half of it, What a great program! When I use the guide which instructs us how to use Nero for burning (posted on AD at http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/burning_dvd_with_nero.cfm) Nero simply copies the re-authored files to the disc (although it indicates that it's burning them to the disc while in process). Consequently I end up with info. bup. and vob files, just like I had them on my HD. When I try to play the movie I get the message that this format isn't supported. When I use Shrink and Nero together - no problems, everything goes by the book and I can play the movie anywhere. I wonder if the guide is mistaken, or is it me (as usual) who got it all wrong... BTW, thanks for your reply regarding splitting the very large movie with Remake of Nero. I'll check it out and I know how to use zip or rar files. I'm newbie only here, on this form, but I'm not a complete rookie when it comes to 'puters and other things in life... By the way, I just got DVDCopoy - think this one will do the trick of splitting the large movie? Thanks for your help.
Not sure what you are saying, When burning with nero and another app I use nero express and click and drag the entire folder to the VIDEO_TS folder. Doesnt matter what's in it. It takes it all. Except for shrink, which I set to auto burn. I think you're worrying to much about viewing it on your PC, Use a rw and if it doesn't work you have lost nothing. Oh I see! you're talking about 2 different things, you threw me there. _ _X_X_X_X_X_[small] [bold]GO VOLS![/bold]..Dell Media4600, XP,Pentium 4 @2.80GHz/800Mz,512MB,280HDw/8MB,17" flat panel,AIO-A920,8xDVD-ROM,integrated 5.1 audio, HPdc4000,PlextorPX-708UF,LiteOn SOHS 832S dual layer[/small]
When I want to burn in conjunction with Shrink, I simply use it and it launches Nero automatically which burns fine the disc and is playable on any DVD player. However, if I try to burn movies I prepared already and saved on my HD and I follow the guise instructions I don't get the expected disc. I use Nero Burning Rom, choose DVD-Video, copy all the prepared files to Video-TS, hit the Burn icon and the process starts, However, even though it's "burning" I don't get playable disc but a disc with the various info bup and vob on it. In other words, I simply copies the files from my HD to the disc, while I think it should create an ISO file. As I said, I'd rather know what I'm doing wrong, but I do burn successfully with Shrink or Recode which then use Nero to burn. By the way, I switched to RW and it saved me 10-15 costers... Great piece of advice.
Use burn express(just below burning rom), much easier! Open it and then open where your files are, click and drag ENTIRE folder to VIDEO_TS and burn! so much simpler. _X_X_X_X_X_[small] [bold]GO VOLS![/bold]..Dell Media4600, XP,Pentium 4 @2.80GHz/800Mz,512MB,280HDw/8MB,17" flat panel,AIO-A920,8xDVD-ROM,integrated 5.1 audio, HPdc4000,PlextorPX-708UF,LiteOn SOHS 832S dual layer[/small]
I know now why it didn't work before with Nero Burning Rom - I simply didn't double click on the Video_TS folder so the files were copied to the DVD root instead. Tried again and with Nero Express, as you suggested - much better and more intuitive. Someone should fix the guide here on AD, to inform users to use Express instead. Another question - why under Audio I see twice AC3 2ch English and twice AC3 5.1ch English (plus foreign languages)? They are identical sizes and I wonder why they show twice and if I can keep only one pair of them and delete the other.
Keep them both - there's not that much you're going to lose by keeping them both, the size won't vary that much - "P"
It depends - if it the Director's cut - you lose nothing If it's the Movie's audio - well I don't think that one extra audio is going to make such a difference - Mayhaps Superman, with his X-ray vision could tell the difference but for a few MBs ? Naaaahhh, leave’em both there – Pete
I need some assistance and you guys might be able to help. I backup movies using DVD Shrink and Nero with no problem. They play nicely on my DVD player. However I didnt want to keep the menus and wasnt sure how to re author it. My friend and I worked out how to re author using DVD Shrink and now we remove the menu and extras. On most movies the menu and extras are useless to me and causes the main movie to be compressed. Problem is they play om my comp, my friends comp and his LG DVD player. My Panasonic does not it comes up saying "cant play disc". My DVD player is around 2 years old and my friends LG player is 6months to a year. We burn using the same s/ware and same DVD burner. Jus to re iterate I can play burnt movies on my DVD player but when the menus are removed they wont play. I guess the answer is obviously my DVD player. Can you please give me a second opinion and any advice. It would be appreciated. DonutHead.
Donuthead, if all you want is the movie, when you open shrink and after it does it's 30to40sec analyze hit re-author. On the right side click and drag main movie(it will be the longest, usually Title 1) to the left side. That's it. There is no need to edit, or as you said take out extras and menu, etc. if all you want is the movie. Enable nero to burn, edit>preferences>I/O file> enable nero. Hit backup, use deep analysis if there is a lot of compression, set your temp folder and burner and leave til done. I would disable foreign languages, in fact you can do this where you enable nero under stream selections and put in english in both drop down menus. This will automatically remove other language tracks. This should play immediately when inserted in your player. You can use >> or >>l to F.F. or search chapters on your player remote. _X_X_X_X_X_[small] [bold]GO VOLS![/bold]..Dell Media4600, XP,Pentium 4 @2.80GHz/800Mz,512MB,280HDw/8MB,17" flat panel,AIO-A920,8xDVD-ROM,integrated 5.1 audio, HPdc4000,PlextorPX-708UF,LiteOn SOHS 832S dual layer[/small]
