A bit more info might help, how many other xboxes are you hooking up to the hub (hub or switch?) and also whether the game supports it, or is your xbox modded and you're trying to hook it up to a pc network? Bit more info needed.

Hmmm, unfortunately i've had no experience with xbox live, as soon as i got broadband my xbob shat itself. I suppose it comes with a disc for setting up the broadband? Before u do that i'd physically connect the xbob to the hub using cat5e cable, i could tell u how to do it for the pc side of things, but i don't think that will help in this case, as i'm unsure how the xbob handles dhcp and auto assigning for ip addresses. I don't think there would be much to it, but maybe someone who has xbob live can help. Sorry i couldn't be of more help.

First you would need to check with your ISP to see how many IP addresses it allows. If it assigns more than 1 then you can just plug in your Xbox to the hub and the cable modem or whatever will assign it an IP.
You can't have the same IP address for both in the same network so if your ISP only allows one IP then you would either need a Router instead of a hub or only have either your XBox or PC plugged into the hub but not both at the same time.
