hi all - please forgive me if i posted wrongly.
    i need some help .
i have two AVI file (one movie, but in two parts)
can i safely join these using Boilsoft Video Joiner so that i can run the end product through convertxtodvd to get my movie onto a DVD.
i just had another thought - do you think i might be able to just put the two files into convertxtodvd and thats it ?
im a little worried about weather or not i will have problems using the subtitles because of the need to join the two files.

Yes and yes, not familiar with Boilsoft but never had a problem with sub's in a joined movie.

I prefer using avidemux (free) to join 2 avi's together. I've used Boilsoft Video Joiner before and the finished file wasn't playing properly and had some artifacts. Boilsoft is good for joining small files, but on large movies avidemux is best.
On avidemux open the first file then append the second file, next just save it, make sure you add the type of file to the name (example movie.avi) You don't have to adjust any settings your just copying the video/audio (default setting). The finished file will be the same quality as the original (no reencoding needed when joining avi).

I also have convertx2dvd, but I could never figure how to join 2 files to play with no pause between the files.

Actually, I think only the newest version of ConvertXtoDVD join's file's but it only take's a minute to join them first anyway.

ive almost given up on this.
not sure what im gonna do, starting to think it might have been a waste of time & bandwidth to get these. its a shame too 'cause the quality is pretty damn good.
its just that everything seems to be chopped in half .....
(subtitles too ???!, and theres a whole bunch!)
and not only that - but the video does not exactly stop & start where its split. the second one starts like 3/4 seconds before where the first one stops, so you have a scene that repeats itself. it just seems like it might be way too much work, and im just not that savy or patient. i mean i dont mind doing a little work but, come on.
i guess if i knew how to use the tools (and what tools) it might be a breeze, but i wouldnt even know where to start.
itd be great to turn this into a good learning experience. if any of you guys can, let me know what i should keep in my arsenal and any tips on how to use. thanks all for the feedback

i forgot to mention or emphasize in my last post that its pretty important that i be able to keep at least two of the subtitles.
thats where & why i think that it all gets more complicated.
    im thinking that .....
    1. i have to cut / snip one of the halves to join exactly where the other one starts/stops.
    2. will that cutting / snipping throw off the subtitles ???
    (a) do you cut / snip subtitles ???

    Uuuuugh!

Try AviMux_Gui for joining the file's (free): http://www.alexander-noe.com/video/amg/#download (Binary 1.17.8) Open the first and drag the second in, highlight both by dragging your cursor over them, select generate data and in the lower window, highlight audio and select start and you'll have a new file in a minute. You should alway's check each file seperately first for any sync issue's that don't show on the pc. Same way, open the file, highlight and select generate data and in the lower window, highlight audio and any delay will appear to the right. If other than 0 appear's, hit start to make a new file to use. Only work's for a constant delay. Another thing you can try is this guide to hardcode the sub's: http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/adding_subs_to_avi.cfm Haven't used it much but worked fine; if you need, a site like Subscene usually has sub's you can use: http://subscene.com/ I would imagine snipping the file would cause a sub sync issue and I think there is a way to edit sub's but not familiar with it.

Assuming a properly made 2 CD AVI movie, ConvertXtoDVD 3 will be able to properly merge both the video and the subs.

Try AviMux_Gui or Avidemux, both above.

    @ atyrrell ,
the Avidemux that mistycat & cyprusrom are recommending seems to be the way to go.
i havent tried it myself but ive seen it recommended for this many times from these guys from the community with more experience.
