I've searched everywhere for this answer but couldn't find one. I tried the QuickTime Alternative method in the Guides but that didn't work.
I have managed to see the .mov file in wmp 11 but no sound. I tried some other codecs and then was able to hear the .mov file but there was no video.

Is this only possible with WMP Classic?

    hi cueball67!

you have a strange problem. i cant give help directly but i can give you some history that may be helpful.

.mov files are much like .avi files in that they are just containers for video and audio streams. this means that the actual codecs required may vary from file to file. (.avi files these days are normally divx video, and mp3 audio - a .mov file may be same but *may not*).

Personally i've never had problems play .mov files in wmp11 using QuicktimeAlternative.

It may be worth installing a really really old version of real Quicktime just to find out what formats the streams are in - i had to do this once with a .mov file where the video stream was encoded in 3ivx format, and once i'd (tried to) play it in Quicktime i knew exactly what codecs i required and wmp11 would play them okay.

Thanks, I'll try what you suggested. I should have mentioned, the .mov files are from a new Kodak V1073 camera. Not sure if that would help any.

strange - if mediaplayerclassic plays them then you have the codecs. i would expect wpm11 to play them to. it may be the wmp11 just isnt going to play them...

Maybe there's something in WMP 11 that I have to change the settings? I looked but couldn't find anything, unless I was looking in the wrong place. I can use classic just fine, it's just that I want to use WMP 11. Thanks for your help. :)
