Hi there, as the title really. Basically in my new machine I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and all is going good but what I want to know is, I have a 250gb hard drive in my old xp machine and I have roughly 200gb of media files on that hard drive and I really want to keep all them files so can I take the 250gb hard drive from the xp machine and put it in my windows 7 machine and leave it there and use all the files ? The windows xp OS is also installed on the hard drive so I'm just wondering if it might cause problems in my new set up ? So best to try copy the files over or just use hard drive as mentioned ? Thanks
won't be able to use the xp or any installed programs on that drive but can access all data files. drive has to be slave if ide or secondary if sata as xp will most likely barf if used as c:drive being it is a different motherboard.
Thanks for the reply. So at the minute on my machine I'm using 3 sata power devices, my boot hard drive, a second 1TB hard drive and my optical drive, all 3 are sata powered and use sata cables. The drive I'm taking from the xp machine is 4 pin molex powered but uses a sata cable so I should be ok to just power and connect it up in new machine and I should see all files ? I don't need any app's ect.. from the drive, I just want the video_ts folders and files ect... Thanks
