hi i just got this computer that was sort of a rebuilder job and i got it up and runnning but it has no OS and i cant do anything with it. I was wondering since my old compute had Windows XP on it if it would be possible to copy the opperating system from the old computer(which will still be used) to the new rebuilt computer? the old computer has a 40 gb hard drive tho and i only have a 15 gb hard drive, so i dont want to transfer everything over to the new computer. Is that a possibility or would i have to go out and purchase a whole new copy of Windows XP?

    thanks

You can but remember when u installed the OS originally, the XP setup installed drivers for ur current hardware, what will happen, is xp will freak out when you copy and run it to your old computer.

You will have to go into safe mode when starting the computer, and make sure everything is running right, safe mode, will force the computer to sit there and try to install every single new piece of hardware.
Also, i would pop in the xp cd and run in the cmd window

    sfc /scanonce
    or scannow

that will make windows replace all system files that are protected, with new files off of the cd, and make sure are connected to the internet, xp will find most of the unknown drivers off of the internet.

Good Luck, i hope i could at least help a little bit.
