Can internet accelerators fry a modem?

    I jus bought a modem a week ago (motorola surfboard) & installed "speedConnect" an internet accelerator. Today I was downloading & all of a sudden my modem died. Called ISP & they said modem was not responding.
    Could I have fryed my modem? I only tweaked windows settings not the modem bios. Why did this happen? any1 know?

    the modem could have gone on it's own without the accelerator.
